Who uses 100qt igloo coolers?

Im about to get going with 2 of these, just curious as to how much water you use in yours and how often you change them out. Trying to figure out a good method of doing this before everything is underway. Feel free to PM me or post here, would like to discuss various options.

I am debating setting up a 3rd, 150qt igloo(no plants) that I could use as the control. Im not sure how I would have to set this up though? I would like to be able to do this without having to dump water into the 100qt igloos. Perhaps just turn a valve and let it drain the 100qt igloos, then turn another valve from the 150qt and let them fill up with the new mix.

Now, while writing this, I think I figured it out. But, going to post anyway! Once I get the drywall up Ill get some pics of this all ;)

I use the 150 qt (37.5 gallons) igloo marine coolers myself but not as a control. They are my res for a modified Stinkbud Aero/nft setup. 30 gallons actual water use. I change the res every 10 days, usually. I have gone as long as 14 and as short as 7(due to a couple of minor issues when I first started setup)

The way I add /remove water from res is all thru the pump, I plop an eco 1056 in and pump out via garden hose, to fill I drop the same pump(after a 5 min cleanup) into 1 of my 55 gallon water storage barrels and pump into the cooler. Takes all of 15-20 mins. Their are easier higher tech ways to do it but I tend to have issues the more I rely on mechanical crap, K.I.S.S. is what I try to do, a little more time spent on it for me but less chance of screw ups... as long as I do not try it totally baked.

Are the 100's higher than the 150 control? A pump from the 150 and drain return via gravity can work. All depends on what you have available to do in your room and grow setup.

What are you planning to do, sort of a RDWC with them and use the 150 as control? Pics and a little more info and I can see if any of my lame ideas can help you out.

Im currently in the building stage right now, my room isnt even finished. I still have to put drywall up and get my ventilation box in.

I dont have my coolers setup yet, they are all in raw forum right now, aka, straight out of the store. Once the room is up, I will hit the coolers to get them built how I want and then I will get the room organized.

I didnt think about using a pump and keeping the 150 lower than the 100's, but that might work as well.

If I keep the 150 higher than the 100's I wouldnt have to have a pump though. Then, I could fill the 100's via gravity from the 150. I might look into a 55 gallon drum for a h20 storage tank, then use a pump to fill the 150 when needed.

I will be doing a simple DWC bubble setup with 2 large air stones in each 100qt cooler being ran off a fusion model 700 air pump. Ill have a 2nd air pump running 2 more stones in the 150qt cooler 24hours before a res change. I guess the 150 wouldnt really be a control at that point, more of a tank to get my water setup before change out.

So you just want the 150 to fill the 2 100's as needed. Going to adjust nutes after the refill? Your idea works better for any plant height issues for sure. Since it is not RDWC and just DWC sounds like you are already on the right path.

Looking forward to some pics.

This is what popped into my head when I read your post, mostly because I have considered some form of this with my coolers. You end up with about a 70 gallon (30/20/20) res and RDWC.............and like everything else I do, even my schematics are DIY... lol
You can either run pump on a timer for drip or always on right into the 100's as long as your overflow can hang in there and keep up. When it is time to drain the 2 100qts just have a perm hose attached to drain plug and hook up to drain.

Figured Id throw up some pics of the work I've been doing. I kinda jacked up the framing of the room, so its not entirley square and made things kinda difficult. Wish I had gone back and double checked a few things earlier in the build. Oh well, live and learn. Only here till I can buy my own house. This is my lil medical grow room :)

vent box: going to section off the exhaust/intake. exhaust is on the left, 1 for the carbon filter and 1 for the light. need to pickup 1 more intake duct.

quick question, what size net pots do you run in these 100qt coolers? I picked up some 3" net pods, but I am starting to think these are to small? will they be fine? Also, would 3 plants per igloo be just right or would a 4th be fine?

I use a 120 Quart for my external res outside of flower room. For my pots I like the 10 gallon slip lid Igloos. This is 2 weeks into flower. This is done with 2 ezcloner sprayersmand a mag3 pump. Peace 907
