Does it bother anyone else that cfls are locked up like fort knox in that obnoxious plastic thing? today i'm opening a two pack. I try to pry the plastic apart. forget it. i then finally find a pair of scissors with the balls to cut thru this stuff and cut an end off. i ever so carefully try to pry the plastic apart using slightly increasing pressure and then SNAP!. the fucking thing snaps apart and one of the bulbs pops out. in slow motion i try to catch it but i miss and it smashes to the floor. are cfls too damn fancy for the old cardbord sleeve? what the hell? i shouldn't need fancy tools or any skills to open a light bulb. it's just too much.

yah, i feel your pain.. i have a young nephew, and do i ever dread xmas time.. and not because of all the money i spend on the lil sucker cuz he has me wrapped around his lil finger, noooo.. but rather cuz its such a major pain in the a$$ to open up the toys that i just spent all o my money on... most of them require some good wire cutters or atleast a nice sturdy pair of fiskor scissors to cut through all that damn plastic.. its crazy, it really is.. the only thing i can think of, is that we have the shoplifters of the world to thiank for all of this crap.. have the time i think that they spend more money on all the packaging then they did on the damn two dollar thing that your trying to get out of it..

Try buying a pair of scissors packaged like that, and not having an open pair to cut open the new pair.
I have had to use a razor knife on may items to get them out of the plastic.

Yeah it is ridiculous and all the trash it creates?? wtf? I keep a box knife for it, seems to work the best.

oh dude i totally totally agree. the cardboard would be just fine! but its ok...that just discourages me from buying cfls, and encourages me to buy a hps lamp. the hps lamp DID come in a cardboard box :D hehe

That's funny. Kinda reminds me of when I went to get an ID they wanted two forms of ID.

And if you think those things are hard to open have you ever bought a children's toy?

I hate that shit. Everything comes packaged like that now. Get a utility knife, it is the only way to efficiently open that shit.

BTW GE bulbs come in a box with an easy open plastic holder. A kid could open them with their bare hands.

In case nobody noticed, the MAIN reason everything is 'locked up like Fort Knox' now is due to THEFT. Google it and you'll see. The retailers all complained that packaging that was easy to open encouraged theft by both customers AND employees alike. So the reason the packages are like that is due to ass-hat thieves. Since the packages are basically impossible to open IN the store (without tools or blasting dyanmite) AND they are usually too large to fit in a pocket theft has dropped a measurable percentage. Sad, but true. :(

if 5 dollar cfls are such a highly sought after item then they need to put them in a locked case like video games and other fancy shit that still comes in normal packaging. my original beef wasn't so much the packaging itself, but its application on such a fragile item such as a cfl bulb. if' i'm opening a kid's barbie doll i can be a little rough and get the damn thing open, if i'm opening a bulb using force results in disaster and i think it's stupid over a stupid little bulb, especially packaged one at a time.
