Who Sinned?

John 9:2 His (Jesus') disciples questioned Him "Rabbi WHO HAS SINNED, THIS MAN or his parents that he was BORN BLIND? This passage has been something I have pondered for years. I'm not really interested in the response to the question but rather what would the desciples have been thinking when the question was asked. Why were they not admonished for thinking this way? I understand the whole sins of the fathers being visitted upon the sons thing but I'm really only interested in addressing the capitalized portions of the passage. Thanks to anyone participating politely and objectively. Peace

I would think that the more important question would regard why there is sin to begin with. Why would an all-powerful condemn anyone to hell? Why would the creator of the universe make shellfish and bacon tasty, and then condemn us for eating them? God isn't found in dogma and reading books; it's found within yourself. It seems a bit ridiculous to think that a being who knew about our sins before they happened would condemn us for them. I'd say nobody sinned, it was just a good means of keeping the natives from getting too restless.

I agree completely but the point of the thread was apparently missed. peace
The point was discussing the bolded portions, yes? What's the point of discussing sin if it's existence is counter to logic? My answer stands; the disciples likely would find the concept of sin ridiculous, provided they were reasoning folks.

I'm afraid I'm not clear on the question in the OP
a man being born blind as a punishment for his own sin sounds like an allusion to reincarnation to me. i however have no knowledge of reincarnation being taught in the jewish faith. i was hoping others would be able to share their take on this.

Sounds like he commited sins in a pre life.... and he is punished for them in the next life....
My dad was a sin freek, he knew all about sin, and the B-I-B-L-E...
"For we have all sinned and come short of the glory of god..."
We are all sinners... The blind guy, he must have stole someone's pleasure in a former life...
