ya i would go with the umbrella hood to.i got the 400 watt HD and HPS with 6in exhaust and carbon filter with fan 130 buck off ebay.down fall it had reg hood and that fucker puts out some heat ,if i do it again i will get umbrella ,for sure

Can't speak on the ballasts but the bulbs are of VERY poor quality. The typical review on an apollo bulb is that "..it worked fine for the first few days..." Check amazon reviews on apollo bulbs or thru low-baller ebay. I recently made the apollo mistake. They will do anything they can to avoid refunding your money. They are happy to resolve your issue by sending you another crap bulb however. After 5 emails with 2 different people I finally just wrote it off to theft by swindle. I'm sure your experience might be different though.

I have a ballast, emergency buy, it has worked wonderfully for close to a year now.

Ive been using both a 400 and 600 Apollo constantly for over a year with no issues.

you guys must have gotten bad batches of Apollo items. ive been running Apollo ballasts and bulbs for 4 years. I swap my bulbs every other cycle. warning tho, DO NOT use ushio hps dual spectrum bulbs with Apollo ballasts, you will instantly brun out the bulbs and ballasts. I also ran their xxl cool tube for those years and pulled off some excellent yields (1g/w). lowballer is the shit on amazon. always stands behind everything he sells.

I got one 600 in with an air cooled hood . Has work great for me so far . Had it a few years ballast has held up the bulb started loosing it's shine after the second grow though

I bought a 600 apollo ballast and its been nothin but good to me.... knock on wood
