I have two 52L pots and i am wondering what medium combination i should use. I have a big bag of clayballs and a bag of nicks mix which consists of coco, perlite and beneficial micro organisms. It claims to be the perfect hydro mix from my local hydro store. My system is those two pots sitting on a 60L res. Top feeder rings pumping up water from my res running through the medium back into the res. The pots also have inserts in the bottom to lift the medium off the bottom of the pot. Should I layer the clay balls, say 2inches and put the nicks mix on top or should mix the balls in with the mix.

My second question is,
I've soaked my rockwool cubes overnight in ph'ed water and have germinated my seeds, i just put them in the cube's this morning and left them in an ice cream container not sitting in any water, under two fluros. when do i feed/water them again. Should i let them sit in abit of water or should i wait till the cube dryes out. And when i do water them should I give a weak nutes feed

but the cubes are still pretty heavy im guessing since they have such little roots they are drinking super slow. when cubes are still semi heavy am i suppose to start my veg feeding or just stick with the clonex till they get a little bigger

I'm completely new to this, and getting my first seeds later today. What is the simplest and cheapest way to grow my seeds. How long on average does it take, and what will I need to do to grow them? Thanks.
I don't mean to be a dick, but you need to read a book like Mel Franks or Ed Rosenthals. You need soil, lights and nutrients. It takes months. You better set up their place before you sprout them. Mainly you need to do research.

Hi,
I'm a newbie, so be easy on me. I have leaves curling up and inward. They start out turning a really deep green with no spots to speak of. Then over several weeks they start losing their color. These are fan leaves that are exposed the most to the light. Shaded foliage appears to be uneffected.

Here is my current set up.

1000w MH
Good Soil for Hydro Shop
PH is 6.7
Humidity is running 40-50%
mixed strains (all seem to be affected)
High quality seeds from Holland(skunk is doing the best)
Watering is done when soil is dry top couple of inches
Flora Nova one part grow
misting a couple times a day.

This problem is driving me crazy. I'm going to get my water tested this week to find out ppm levels. Water is from well. Any kind advice would be appreciated.

Stop misting.

It sounds like nutrient burn to me. Run just water for a while. You could stand to drop your pH just a bit too.

help please...... I just put 15 of my my 1" rockwool cube rooted clones in my hydroton (yea!) rooting another 15.... I dipped the cubes in a mild nute solution (200ppm),,, keeping them about 25grams each... I read somewhere to let them sit in the hydroton for at least 2 days before starting a feeding cycle.ebb&flo.. True? I had a feeding chart I copied for new rooted plants but I cant find it... I have them at 75 degrees and right at 40% humidity... They are under a 1000w mh in ocho xxxl that is 3' 8" away.... not much heat at all, but lots of light!... They seem to have been doing ok the last few hrs.... Kinda afraid to go to sleep... So should I flood them? My ph is 5.8 and rez temp 65... and ppm in rez is 275. about 60ppm was from the tap water. thx Frog

Are my seedlings to tall? I can't get the light much closer than 3 ft cause of the heat.. It's a 4oow HPS. This is the first night under the HPS, before it was under 1 23w T5 FL for 5 days.. See my journal..

With a 400w HPS in a closet 2x3.5x7 do I need to be able to get the lights real close? and if so, how close? And how can I deal with the heat?

Your seedlings are stretching. They don't need the HPS yet, go back to the fluoro.

You need to exhaust the heat with a fan. This is absolutely critical. You will not have good results without adequate air flow.

A 400w bulb must be within 28 inches of the plant, ideally within 10 inches.

They were stretching with the FL. I only have 1 T5 23w FL. That should be enough if they are only 2" from the light right?
I had them in a heated seedling flat, should I keep the heating pad under them while I have them under the T5?

No, you don't need a heating pad. Keep the light about 1 inch away. Make sure the light is the right color temperature for vegetative plants.

If I forget to thank you later, I had a wonderful time reading your advice... Got 4 girls 3-3.5ft, (NL, HB, TW & CS). First time grow, cloned (cut on 10/22) rooted and planted into grow pots 11/1. I've been using Humboldt 707 coco soil-less medium adding no nutrients and plain watering. They're in a 2x4x72 grow tent, T5 216 watt and 2 100 watt cfl's. Saw quite a few "bumps" at the crux of the leaf/stem with small white hairs coming out of each side of them. The bumps are round/oval, not long. I thought this was the beginning of flowering so on 11/30 put them into a 12/12 flowering cycle. Now I'm hearing that they may be pre-flowers? and not sure if I've gone and messed up royally. Will they be ok or is there something I need to do to fix it, is it broke??? /pout I hope not, so stoked about this, they look gorgeous (IMHO)and I'm adding a pic of each one but I am a newbie and would love your advice. Thanks street, really appreciate this thread. Suite321.jpg323.jpg360.jpg366.jpg

2 or 3 days into flowering so I think you could go back to vegging if you want. You said clones so I assume you know the sex. Sounds like pre-flowers to me. They look ready to keep flowering to me. With Cfl's I'd get started.

tstone. If you want to harvest some, just leave the lower to 'ripen' up with the same light schedule. Flipping back to 18/6 then back to 12/12 again to finish sounds like a recipe for hermie's.
