hope u can help, i am running an aeroponics system and i have an algea problem i just cleaned everything 2 days ago and its back. No light gets in the res and my tubing is all covered. not sure where its getting life from unless its filtering through the hydroton in the baskets the plants are in. Is there any way to combat this. And do you need to keep the res cool the water is on the warm side not sure if this is causing the grow or not. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

I am soil guy but from owning fish tanks. Not only light but warmth will promote algea. I have read on here were they will put frozen water bottles in the res to cool it down. Hope this helped some?

Peace

Rez Chiller. That's what you need. Water should be no higher than 73 degrees. Water bottles won't last long in rez. What size is your rez?

Had to happen sooner or later  need some help/clarification.

My plant is 3 weeks old from start of germinating today, growing in soil. She's started developing small rust coloured spots on the bottom most leaves and she also has reddish stems (thought this may be a strain thing since she had it from the start). Most of my reading has led me to believe this is a pH problem causing deficiencies. Got the kit today and tested, water is 7, ran it thru a Brita filter and it's gone down to 6.5. I'm following riddleme's 'make it rain' technique, got her first 'rain' 6 days ago (yes I missed the bit to hold off till they're older ) and her first 1/4 strength nutes with molasses 2 days ago (reason: slight yellowing in the bottom leaves and cots turning yellow, the rust spots are forming in these yellowish patches between and on the vein), she was almost dry yesterday but the bottom of the pot still felt heavyish so didn't 'make it rain' decided to wait till after she wakes up later tonight. All water given till now has been from the tap (pH7).

My solution to this is to 'make it rain' with 1tsp of garden lime (calcium carbonate) and 1/8 tsp molasses in a litre of filtered water as well as spray some of this onto her leaves. Would rather wait to see if this helps before I give more nutes but I'm undecided on this. Is this the correct thing to do? If not please tell me why so I can learn from it.

The pics were taken yesterday, can see the yellowish patches but the rust spots are forming on her first leaves only at the moment, can also see the reddish stem but its only on the uppermost part and not the whole stem (strain thing??). The crusty bit on her cot is from the seed casing, she's always had it.

Thanks.
Em

would just use water for the next 2 weeks, soil prolly has nutes in it, does not look serious nor does it look like a ph lockout

Hey there folks. Would appreciate any help on this question as I am trying to relate my first outdoor pot grow with plants that I already know how to successfully grow. How does the optimum water level / moisture of the soil for a pot plant compare to the same for a tomato plant in vegetative growth and also in bloom?

I know for a tomato plant in veg growth I should just keep the soil moist (not wet) and allow it to dry out before the sun goes down each night. For a tomato plant in blossom, you want to keep the soil a little wetter in the day and it is even more important that it be dry at night.

How does a marijuana plant compare to a tomato in its veg and blossom stage in regards to watering?

Thanks!

OK i got a question for you.
This is my 3rd grow
my HYDRO setup consists of
10x6x7 mostly enclosed room split into two 5x4x7 sides (veg and flower)
one 4x2 ebb and flow tray used for veg side, to veg clones and whatnot
General Hydroponics Water Farm 8 bucket drip system, broken down into a 4 bucket system. for flower side
one 1000 watt HPS on the flower side
one 4 bulb 4ft T5 6500k light system, used for veg side
one 20lb Co2 tank and co2 injectionsystem
using Humboldt base grow, micro, bloom. along with some other advanced nutrients adds...
i currently hace 4 20 inch or so White Rhino going in the bucket system and am mothering 2 more rhinos in my ebb and flow tray on the veg side to take clones from etc...

I recently purchased some seeds online from various seed banks around the UK, Amsterdam etc.... The strains are Chocolate Chunk, Maui Wowie, Kali Mist, Sharksbreathe, chemical dx 99... ANYWAY. i cracked all the seeds and put them into rapid root plugs, over a heat mat where they all sprouted to about 3-4 inches tall. At this point some of them started to fall over, this concerned me so i figured they were outgrowing the plugs and were ready to transplant. so i went ahead with my original idea which was transplanting the plugs into 4 inch rockwool cubes and just plop them on my 4x2 ebb and flow table. under 4 T5 6500k bulbs. but it failed. i put the plugs into the rockwool cube, flooded with PH treated water at 5.6-5.7 4 times a day or so for a bout 30 mins at a time, and the little fellas just got worse by the hour. the drooping got worse, some of the little leaves got browned on the outside edges, NO BUENO. so not sure what was going wrong but knowing they werent happy, lead me to trasplanting the plugs again into foxfarm soil, each i there own solo cup. I figured this was the best thing to do since they needed something asap. so its the next morning and they are growing again. small new leaves are showingin between the main two leaves that first sprouted. What did i do wrong? i need to know because i plan on using the ebb and flow tray to veg the seedlings once they get healthy again but im deciding wether or not rockwool cubes are the way to go or not......
thanks for any input. ill attach some pictures of the little fellars and my setup in the next post

i have a 50 gal res, but only put 30 in it, and yeah it is higher than 73 degrees. So i am going to get the res cooler asap. What should i do about the roots they dont look great. I cleaned them an they had no hairs growing off of the and could be possibly root rot. Should i chop off the questionable roots and force it to grow more and shock the shit out of them or let the roots there be and hope they recover??? please help

My RH stay in the area of 30% to 35% & heat stays in the low 80's.
I'm using Hempy pots with 100% perlite 430 watt. I have fans at enter & exit. Also a small pot of water with nylon unbraded ropes which is rith in front of the entry fan.
What's up? Please............

Help Needed!!!!!
First I will give you what I have then, I will give you what my current issues are.
1) 6’x8’ greenhouse. 4’x4’ flood table, 50 gal reservoir, 256 gph pump. 2-18” air stones, 2-12” blizzard floor fans, 8 tub 4’ light set up, fox farm grow big, using 20-1 ½ gallon grow pots, Sure to Grow cubes and blocks, hydroton, black shade block over the green house, timers lights on from 6am-9pm, table floods for 20 mins every 3 hours
2) First time ever using flood and drain system. I started with 20 clones dated 5/2 a few different flavors OG Kush, Purple Kush, Cheese, Sour Diesel, and NY Diesel. I have lost two or three plants over the past month. I figured no big deal the rest are doing well. From last night at 8pm till tonight 5/16 at 6pm I lost 4 of my strongest plants they wilted up and shrunk. Most were about 14”-18” tall and showing a new level of leaves every few days. If I wantedto I could of forced into flower and hard a nice little crop. Nothing from day tot day had changed. The high temp in the greenhouse was 86 degrees not to high. I checked the PH level it was at 7.0 a little high but nothing that would cause this. I did change the length of the flood time from 20 mins to 30 mins every 3 hours.
Does anyone have any ideas, thoughts, questions, anything????? My plants in my grow room in 3 gallon soil buckets are growing well like weeds…..
ill admit im mostly hydro-illiterate, ive only read about the concepts of it and how it works. i decided it was too complex for me.

but do you know what your ppm is? id have no idea what was too hig or low it should be; but other RIUers would.
i just used soil from my backyard mixed with some compost.

when it was about three weeks old i did water it with a REALLY (like 1/8th strength) weak miracle grow mix tho
at four weeks i put some bat guano into the top layer of soil (its that orangey looking substance on the surface)

ive been told there are better things to fertilize with at different times in its life, and i guess my question is what could it use now? and later in its life?
theres plenty of great things you can do with organice. if your interested i say start a compost heap LIKE today. just throw all sorts of decomposeables in a bit where they can do their thing. great recorces for organics, soils and compost can be found with a quick google check

Feed,water,water,feed right!?
In the water feeding time can you incorporate MG bloom enhance or Mg purpose plant food? And some superthrive with molasses?
And feeding time superthrve, molasses, and Alaskan bloom, also some generalorganics vegan plant food or bloom?
Or is that too much mixed???
yea, Feed, water, water, feed, right. you may have too much mixed there your right, so if you use all of that make it in micro doses, know what i mean.? dont go overboar with nutrients, give the plant what it wants when it wants it

oh and ill probly not be the first person to tell you MG is not the greatest. i use it sparingly in my veggie garden whent they r veggin but not when i have fruits growing
i'm 1 month into flower and having N deficiencies. i've done a bit of research on it, but cant find out how to correct it without adding a vegitative fertilizer to the soil, which i read not to do during flower. would really like some advice or suggestions on what to do before my crop is ruined... thank you.
flowerin usually causes the signsof a N def, its ok, depending onthe strain (indica, sativa)your plants should be ready for harvest relitavely soon.

my advice; chill

oh also IMO its okay to use a little veg nutes durring flower to combat this common issue of N Def durring flower that everybody freaks about

What would you do to fatten up my buds on a outdoor grow in a lrge pot
let those beaties flower for a few more weeks, maybe a month, dont stress youl have fat monsterbuds when the plant is ready for harvest

I've got 3 beautiful WW moms that have performed great! I have taken almost 50 clones from them and over the course of this year have harvested some GREAT bud. They are vegging under a bank of
T5s and have outgrown the space I have for them. I REALLY want to flower them but the fact that they will triple is size means I don't have space for 3 twelve foot monsters in my basement hydro setup.
What suggestion do you have to flower these. Should I flower them one at a time? What kind of tying and training can be done? Would these survive a transfer to the outdoors to continue growing and flowering this fall. The fact that they are hydro probably means that can't go outdoors? I'm open to any ideas you might have,,,,,,,
THANKS
you could try transplanting into a hemp bag of soil. i woult top and LST those plants(i mean top relativly soon and LST before the outdoor plants would start to flower)
im tellin you man if you bring monsters like that they woill blow up(if you can transplant them well, those roots bust be fucking huge, you want the biggest hempy bag you can get)

Thank you, the spots are worse :(. Gave her plain filtered water and will leave her be for a few days.
You may be filtering out magnesium. Pot plants love mag. Add epsom salt at the rate of 1T per gallon of plain water. Dissolve salt in water completley prior to giving to plant. I would transplant into bigger pot as well. Plant looks big for pot it's in. Plus you'll add regulated nutes from soil while dealing w/ mag def.

Good Luck,
Sticky
