White Widow - SCROG - 600W - DIY Hydro.

Hey all :D

This is my third go on the White Widow. The first go was last winter, gave me about 68g. This is her 3 days before the cut, you can find the grow journal here.

Second one was during the summer but due to the tremendous heat (40C+) I lost my plants, managed to salvage about 80g out of her after some extensive recuperation.

This plant actually started out of curiosity to test my latest DIY hydro bucket. I took the least promising clone that I had and put her in, thinking what the hell, I got nothing to lose. Her first couple of weeks were also under wrong light spectrum as, the only available light I could use in the closet I put her was a 24W led made for a flowering test. This is her on day one, October the 5th.

She remained like that till the beginning of November. I was getting a bit pissed-off and was thinking of getting rid of her. However after a 10-day absence when I left her under the care of my wife, she began growing properly. This is her on November 29.

Xmas found her in the flowering tent.

I switched her to 12/12 on new year's day. Her lighting schedule before that was 24/0 from October 5 till 18/6 from till October 23 under 24W, 18/6 from October 24 till December 2 under a 400W dual spectrum HID lamp.

She was moved in the tent on December 2 and continued veg under a used 600hps, she was getting too big for the bathroom but I wanted to fill the screen before switching her so I kept the light at 18/6 till the 18[SUP]th[/SUP], switched to 15/9 from the 19[SUP]th[/SUP] to the 24[SUP]th[/SUP] and from the 25[SUP]th[/SUP] till new year's eve was on 13/10.

And this is how she's like today, 20 days under 12/12.

I done some extensive defoliage yesterday to clear out whatever possible below the net. This was the second one done, the first one was done at around xmas.

The plants surrounding her now are a critical mass from mr.nice, a white russian and her clone (yes, the clone is larger than the mother) and a clone of the white widow vegged only for about 10 days.

The grow area is 1.2*1.2 metres, under 600 watts as I said. Temperatures and humidity are perfect, 26C high 19C low and 65% - 55% respectively. Been feeding her with the three-part Flora Series at about 150% of the recommended dosage and the past week I supplemented with 13/14 PK from Hesi at 2ml/10litres for a total ppm of about 900-ish ( @ 0.500 Hanna conversion, 1.8 EC).

Comments, questions, suggestions etc are welcome. :-o

You have the same tentsize and 600W light as I do, but im just doing a vanilla dwc bubbler grow to have something to compare with later. I will be subbing and following your progress, looks really interesting with the small clone. :)

Establishing points of reference is really good, I feel much more confident now after I've seen how this plant behaves and some of it's limits. Hopefully it'll also be my last grow with these shitlamps as I'm planning on switching to LEDs :)

nice baby Bluesdude!
Ty saint ;)

nice..... :bigjoint::bigjoint:
Ty amigo, back in town?

Love how even your screen is. Hopefully I can coax my first grow to look like that. Do you do over under on the net or just keep everything below?

Ain't really that hard. I'm working below the net mostly but as you can see in the last photo, the plant on the lower left (Critical Mass) is trained over the net. That's because I had no space underneath and also I was trying to get an even canopy with the white widow.

In a general sense, while she's still growing I'm trying not to cut anything. If a leaf is blocking the light to lower nodes, I just tuck it underneath to be out of my way. I do a defoilage before turning her to 12/12 and then another one at the 2nd-3rd week of 12/12.

In order to keep the canopy even, just try to do some planning, the plant will tell you where she needs to go and you just make the necessary adjustments depending on your space. I hope that helps. Just remember, they talk back if you listen ;) (having a joint in hand helps hearing ofc)

Since I mentioned the Critical Mass I got to say that it's a great plant. It was broken during bending, quite a nasty break as you'll see in the photos, it only took a week to recover, and furthermore during that week only the top was affected, the other branches kept on growing. But have a look, I've never seen such a recovery.

Good work blues!

Keep it going...:weed:

are you going to switch to leds someday soon? :dunce:
Cheers mate :D Hopefully this will be my last grow with the bloody HID lamps, at least during the winter they provide some of the necessary heating. I also got a closet grow with LEDs but it's a test for new spectra, nothing to show yet ;)

what's your spectrum ?

It's not just one, is a grow with 5 clones of the same plant each under different spectrum. Part of some tests we're running ;) And since I know you won't stop bugging me, here's a photo of one of the plants. First and final :p

how does scrog work
Well, ain't rocket science really :p What you have to do is train your plant so that you create an even canopy level by assigning each top to a different hole in your screen. I have found the white widow to be very flexible which makes it ideal for this type of growing.

Not that much time yesterday to do the update. This is the point from when on the grow will be of some interest since we get some buds to look at :eyesmoke:

This is the bud I'll be tracking
