Which light for veg/ flowering?

So... I guess my 1000w hps light that I ordered on amazon never shipped, so I have to order another one. Where is a good reliable place to order a good grow light. Looking for for a 1000w hps grow light. Preferably with adjustable wattage (example: where I can turn it down to 600-700-800-1000w. (Doesn’t have to hit those exact numbers, but just one that does that)). Possibly one with a cooling thing on the top (forgot what it’s called. Cooling vent?) any suggestions. I’m wanting to use it for a 4x4 grow tent. Wanting 4 plants in there. 8 week veg. ORRR... if you would suggest a different light for veg/ flowering, that would be cool to. I know how hps outputs more red than blue light. Ok, so I’ll quit rambling. Suggestions.... and go.

First let me welcome you to Riu! It turns out your question is just in time! Just bought one! Check my thread and see my dilemma because my old 1000watter just fried last night!

Just make sure you get a 600w MH bulb to go with whichever dimmable ballast you do buy.
I don't think there is a great deal of difference between one cheap ballast and another.

Would you be able to suggest a light which would be able to use hps and mh bulb?

Any modern digital dimmable ballast will run both as far as I know. But do check the details in case it says otherwise.
I have not found one that doesn't fire up either bulb though.

Back in the day a good brand would cost a lot more, but they are all made in china now and for cheap. I haven't seen any difference in power consumption from the ones I have run or in output. But a quality HPS bulb like hortilux or ushio will perform better than a cheap ipower or other cheap bulb. The info for output on bulbs is much easier to find than the comparison of different ballasts.

Edit brands over here in Europe are different to US brands.

Hi mate I’d suggest that a 600w duel spectrum bulb would work great for that space ands if you buy digital ballast it will go to 660w personally I think you will have heat issues in that tent with 1000w and the 600 is more efficient but totally up to you

Thank you for that. Would it might be better to go with a 400w mh for veg and 1000w hps for Flower?

Im not sure what you mean, better than what? A 400w mh would be fine for veg in a 4x4, a 600w mh would outperform it. A 1000w hps will rock a 4x4 in flower. :bigjoint:

Yes buy a better one than the ones I have pictured in my thread. They're the only two I can get same-day shipping, and I need one right now. I'm sure they're fine but I'm also sure there are better choices

That said as Cory mentions they're kinda basically the same now, and the one I'm replacing is basically the same unit as either one I get to replace it

^ agree I have 600w in my 4 by 4 veg (but I mainly run it on 400).

1000w is better for a 5×5' in my opinion

Do you think 1000w Would be a little bit too much for veg stage/ whenever i transplant the germinated seed to a larger container (red solo cup)
