Hey guys, I have a question about the mars hydro series. They have the reflector series and mars II series that I am looking at to buy.
I don't really understand the difference between them. I was on their site and the mars II 400 watt is 190 bucks. Then I looked at the reflector 48 series and the price is only 100 bucks. What's the difference and what light would you guys choose?
Reflector series
mars hydro led grow light-mars II 400

To answer your question, The mars II 400 is around 280 watts at the wall. The other one is 105 watts at the wall. So the difference is gonna be brightness, and area coverage.

BUT. For the $, just get a 400 watt hps. Or a 250 for that matter. You'll have better results than using either of those for flowering. I have used the mars 300's for veg and they do ok, but I wouldn't bother with flowering with them. Good luck.

DO NOT waste your money on a Mars light, or any other name brand light that uses 3w diodes. You will blow diodes within a year and their support will tell you to fuck off.

There is a reason these lights are shown all over this sub in people's garages, turned into modified shop lights and shit.... once they break you can't fix them.

So if you buy a Mars light the only upshot is that you wouldn't need to buy an aluminum frame for your COB build once the light shits out on you

Buy an HPS and save up for a COB build in the mean time

I will no shit send you a 1000W HPS for $190 and it will smash a Mars. But you could also save up and make a killer light... I just want to get rid of my HPS(not the ones I'm running tests on.. Yet

@StoneyMcphatter says his mars hydro will crush any hid or cob so good thing you recommend 1000w hid whew!

Op you could get one of @CobKits light engines and run it hard to beat shit Mars while headed in the right direction.

HID or cree light bulbs at home depot......sorry mars is shit
Get neither! Garbonesia! I hear it takes 750 Mars watts to equal a 600w HPS. That's from someone who grows big things & I totally trust his input.
Aside from that, I hear only negative & see negative about Mars.
They do have quite the team a pretty lil Asian teenybopper a running the show though! Lol!
@sixstring2112 , you got the Mars lunch video to post for us right? Haha!

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds like one big mistake after another. Hope you found something decent by now.

Nah, no worries, the leds are just for fun, they do seem to add a bit of frosty that i dont get with the hps alone, but the 600w hps is plenty of light for what im doing anyways

Cool! Yeah, my LEDs produce much higher quality then my HPS too.

I wouldnt say mine produced better quality, just look a bit frostier(better oil production) but under the blurple style led alone they weren't as dense as the hps, so maybe its just my lack luster style that cant do what i want without both, either way id recomend the cob leds over the small wattage diode style

My HH did not produce weight or quality. My good high quality LEDs produced both.

I just ordered a Johnson cx- 6 & just today I finally got a response from ecosunlite on a 3 cob Cree as well as Cree chips about 420 w. $400.00 that's pretty reasonable even if you had to upgrade to meanwell drivers at some point but that being said I'm sticking with the Johnson
