Which grows better (yield & potency) - greenhouse or direct sunlight?

Just a question from someone looking to try growing in their backyard.

Both would be grown in the same place in the backyard and would receive the same exposure to the sun.

Thoughts?

Both use direct sunlight for growth, so no difference but the cost of building a greenhouse. A greenhouse CAN give you a measure of control against insects and weather concerns.

Greenhouse diffuses UVA/B to almost nothing. Still works great.
Best case scenario may be a roll up greenhouse when the sun is out and no chance of rain, and when it rains put the sides, and top down, and have intake, and outtake fans built into each end, and fans all about

Says they only tested it down to 300nm. Weed and tomatoes, and many other veggies have a protin receptor thats activated at 285nm, so if its still diffusing below 300nm, its not activating the protien that is responsible for activating the protein, though I agree that if it does what they say, its a step in the right direction. From what I understand it takes highly specialized, expensive glass to transmit 280nm wave length, and it also hates to be reflected.
UVA increases the physical amount of resin glands, but UVB changes the Chemical Profile

Very interesting. Do you know of any real-world testing where there have been comparisons of side-by-side grows of greenhouse and outdoor in actual THC content, and if it's significant? My most productive plants have been large coco pots vegged in a greenhouse and then brought in to flower. The root system produced by sunlight is pretty amazing.

Colleges have done testing. NASA did testing on Skylab in 1973, and determined they could influence the cannabinoid profile by flashing Xenon, burning the plants, causing stress.

Very cool. What I am wondering is if this is an appreciable difference or more of a technicality. Do you know if it's been measured in a way that illustrates the actual difference?

That would come down to chemical analysis vs visual. Cant tell a book by its cover. Ive seen Hemp loaded with trichomes. But zero THC

Solacure has some photos. Theyre the only bulb I know of that goes down to 280nm. They are made to run at 32w, but can be run as high as 80w. Buddy runs them at 40w. 2 in a 4 x 4 area with 1000w HID at 18 - 24 inches 6-8 hours a day.

NOTHING beats sunshine and real rain. That being said, outdoors is harder to control pests, diseases, accidental pollination, etc.

To be more specific, what I am wondering is if anyone has ran the test groups of same plant in the same location, but with one outdoors and one in a greenhouse, and then testing them against each other. It wouldn't be a perfect test considering the variables, but it would be worth conducting.

Greenhouse grown is close, but nothing beats a plant out in direct sunlight and seeing the way they grow like crazy after an electrical storm. This is the first time I've grown indoors during the winter in years, and i'm looking forward to comparing the buds I grow to my outdoor buds but....there really is nothing like good outdoor grown herb that was allowed to fully ripen.

If they can live their entire life outside plant them in the dirt. One harvest and indoors will be a hobby for the highest quality. But outdoor bud can be damned potent. In the hands of experienced growers using proper genetics for the job.

IMHO, it depends on where you live and your local weather conditions.

I've seen outdoor crops get hammered with hail, flooded with excessive rain and/or mutilated by strong winds.

The greenhouse gives you some level of protection/control over adverse weather conditions and also can provide a barrier from bugs, deers/rabbits and other thieving critters
