Well it's been four and a half days now since I put them in soil, and they still have not popped out...Guess they are duds....Either I got lame seeds from herbies or I did something wrong.

I started in a moist paper towel inside an open ziplock bag...Started on cable box but that killed the cable box...So then I was using a heating pad but the heating pad would sometimes shut off cause if a safety thing or something...But they did crack but the taproot didn't really come out all that much...Maybe 1/16"...I waited for them to get longer but they didn't so that's when I put them in soil....Our house temp is 69 and I had started them in the cellar which was mid to lower 60s....I finally brought them upstairs and put them in front of a heater vent....I also watered the cups too as they didn't seem too wet...

That sucks...those seeds were expensive...Feminised...I think they were like 8 bucks a pop.

Anyone think I could hit them with some superthrive or something ? Or are these seeds toast ?

Well I cut a square in the top of the flower chamber, and the fart fan is now directly venting it....

16 bulbs and temps are holding steady at 86....So I'm hoping to do 14 bulbs maybe with some t5s...Those fart fans really suck at cooling....

CD, can you chime in here ? How much extra heat do you think four single strip 2' T5HOs will put out ?

I'm also considering getting a bigger fart fan when I get some extra dough.

Sorry bout your seeds man!:(:(....maybe you could germ them inside your box, just one of the smaller compartments.A couple solo cups with something over the top should work good too.Just leave some bulbs on so the temp stays around 80-85.The paper towel cable box works perfect for me,I let it pop completely outta the seed then plant it in the dirt.

Those T5 won't do anything, maybe a degree or two if that.In my case my 3 t5's raise my 2x2x4 box temps to 77 when room temps are 72.The t5 aren't as hot as the cfls so it shouldn't raise temps at all when you have the cfls on.GL

I added a 2' and 3' T5 to my closet grow on top of my 400W HPS and it raised temps 2-3 degrees. Anything that creates heat will increase the temps in your cabinet regardless if it is less hot than the CFL. For germinating I usually take my seeds and put them in warm water overnight 12-24 hours they crack and tail starts to come out and then I put in solo cup and use light warrior, typically takes 2-4 days to sprout. I will cover cup with ziplock baggies and set on top of my fish tank lights to keep warm. My last batch from Attitude I had a couple freebies that didn't pop :(

I'm thinking since our house temps are in the 60s that might not be all that good for germinating...Plus I put the solo cups on the floor of the cold dining room....prolly mid 60s there.....

I am going to retry I guess...I think I may use the cabinet once the seeds pop....Off to work for now...see yas...

thanks for your input guys.

Seriously, invest in a propagation mat or heating pad. I just use an old heating pad I had laying around. It really speeds up germination and can make the difference on whether they even pop.

I have the best luck with the following.

Store your seeds in the frig until you are ready to sprout them. The warmer temperature change helps to let it know that it is time to grow.

I put several 2" rockwool cubes in a plastic butter tub. Wet the cubes and put a 1/4" or so of water in the bottom of the dish.

Then I wrap the seeds in a paper towel, dampen, and set it on the rockwool cubes. I put the butter tub on the heating pad, turn it on medium and drape a hand towel over the tub. The pad temp is pretty warm, maybe 90 deg F. or so. The temp in the room is cool, 67-68 deg.

When they pop I plant them in rockwool and put them in a little plastic seed starting greenhouse with a little water on the bottom, set it on the heating pad too and put a couple of CFL's high over the top of it.

i dont think it made that much of a difference, i think it changed a degree or two. with 4 though, maybe 4 degrees?? also, make sure you mount them above your pot line, dont need light shining on the sides of the pots, LoL. just put them in and run another temp test. maybe you could add a small fan in the bottom blowing up???

UPDATE: still working on it...maybe those seeds not sprouting were a blessing in disguise because I have been busy researching, and tweaking the cab some more....

I can run 12 bulbs in the flower chamber, and temp holds steady at 79...Right now I am now running 16 bulbs to see what the temp will be......

Tomorrow I will tweak with it some more...I would like to get the veg chambers in on the action as well.....

What I may end up doing is moving that 80 cfm fart fan above the veg chambers, and get a more high powered cfm fan strictly for the flowering chamber...I think if I do that I believe I won't have any problems whatsoever with heat or odor. But I am going to still try and make this work with the 80 cfm.

When I say veg chambers I mean I could be using them both as a veg chamber....Or perhaps 1 veg/1 clone....

Or maybe what might be funner would be 1 veg/1experimental chamber....muahhahahahahahahahahahah ;-)

I just put those in there to test out the fixture...

Veggin' will get a 3 or 4 to 1 ratio of 6500k to 2700k....of course flowering is just the opposite.

Also all the light sockets should have splitters as well....I am estimating having 26 to 28 cfls in that chamber for two plants.....23 to 26 watts per bulb
seems like a lot of heat

Wow...16 bulbs and the temps jumped to 88 degrees !!! I just dropped it down to 14 bulbs to see what the temps will be....Damn really lookin' like I might have to get that 2nd fart fan...instead of 80cfm it will be 150cfm

EDIT: I am considering just going balls out and getting a 290 cfm whisper fan @ 2.0 sones....That bastard has to ventilate it, lol

14 bulbs were 84 degrees....Hard to believe 12 bulbs is 79, and just two more bulbs brings it up to 84...So roughly each 23 watt cfl bulbs raises the cab by 2 degrees....I left the 14 bulbs in there and placed a fan on the floor of the chamber pointing upwards...we'll see what that does.

Sorry to hear about your seeds cowboy. I don't know much but I would say you need to invest in a better fan, 80cm isn't very strong (Not like I really know, just from what I have read) to cool. I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and buy one too. I really had no Idea they were so expensive. I'm looking for a good Filter/Fan/controller/ at least 400cm combo for 150. Your Cab is looking really good, I'm sure you will be growing dank in no time.

wow just by having that fan on the floor pointing upwards lowered the temps by 3 degrees....So 14 bulbs is 81 degrees now.
IMO you need more air intakes and a bigger exhaust fan. When I my cabinet was not AC cooled I used a 400cfm fan pulling through a carbon filter to exhaust the flower chamber. That was to cool 400w. Id say 200cfm and more intake and you would be able to hit 75d maybe.

just my 2cents

up, up and a way in the great space cab, LoL. had to say it. that thing is real nice man. i knew that fan on the floor would help.

I know your off and running now will check out your other thread. I was going to piggy back of Dawn's idea blowing heat up. I noticed the way you constructed the light fixture it is open in the middle. I was going to say you could try and get a fan or two that fit in that open area and is wired to lights. It would take heat from light and pull it up at the light level. Good luck!
