I plan on making a box about (LxWxH) 24"x20"x36". Im gonna be using cfls but which ones should i chose. Im deciding between:

15- 26 watt cfls - 390 watts
25500 lumens, 7648 lumens per sq foot

or

9- 42 watt cfls - 378 watts
24330 lumens, 7297 lumens per sq foot

and of course you have to think about cost and heat. what do you think the heat difference will be between them.
at walmart its 6-26 watt cfls for $20 or 2-42 watt cfls for $17

yea I could do that but all the supplies I need are local. I would have to order that bulb online. It also would give less coverage being only 1 source.

yep i see your point and cfl can do a great job, check my enviro 12-12 from seed journal just to see how you rate enviro for coverage, my opinion is that you wouldnt regret getting 1, you can touch an enviro when on, i think would be better on heat than lots of smaller bulbs, but that is only my humble opinion.

what type of bulb is that 125 watt. That's a really high lumen output for that wattage. would the 26 watt give me enough intensity. their much cheaper and i dont have too much money right now

Go with the Wal-Mart bulbs and spread them out. Bathroom light fixtures are cheap and bare sockets are even cheaper. Throw in a few Y-connectors. At least if one bulb goes out, you won't lose half your light source! Spreading out the light source is good if you want multiple plants, too.
