Which bulbs live up to their claim?

I am doing a new grow with a ruderalis strain and am trying to figure out a new bulb.. I am in a hot climate so my ambient temp is usually around 75 to 80 so I'm sure you can imagine how hot it gets in my tent with a 1000w hps running. I've just started experimentation with ruderalis but I do know that you can go from seed to harvest with one light... my concerns are do the hps bulbs that claim to have a wider "enhanced" spectrum really make a difference? do they run hotter than standard? was thinking of getting the Ushio hps until bulb temp came to mind.. or if I would get the same results using a Sun Pulse MH 3k, which I hear runs a lot cooler..

They make mixed MH/HPS bulbs which will give you the best spectrum. I have a digilux, if my memory serves me right. The spectrum does matter. Try getting a ventable hood, like a 6in or 8in. and hook your exhaust to it so it sucks out the hot air. Try getting an intake fan as well, even a small 4in can drop the temps. I have 2 tents. The small is a 4x5x2 with a 1000w HPS. With that set up like I just described the temps pre-exhaust and intake would hit 107. Now they dont change more than 66-74. Just an idea. Good luck with it. The HPS/MH bulbs do look enticing IMO.

I have a 6 in cool tube and a 435 cfm fan pulling air out, passive air flow is what I think its called.. just wondering if there is a big difference in the temp of different brands ... I'm think I'm trying to decide between the 1000 hps digilux or the 1000w hps ushia..

I have the digilux, works well obviously added heat from the increase from 400w-1000w for me, but its working great man. Not sure if the temps really fluctuate too much. I typically buy for longevity and length of performance/original lumen count.
