Where to stay when visiting Maui or Honolulu?

Hello all- I just got an e-mail from Alaska Airlines advertising flights (one way) from the California Bay Area airports to Maui or Honolulu for $159....what a deal! (Cyber Monday). So I look at what lodging in Maui costs and everything's about $150 and up a night to stay there. I checked out Craigslist and found a few places for under $100 a night, but I hate dealing with Craigslist. I don't mind camping/backpacking, but have no idea if that's realistic. So I'm reaching out to the RIU community to see if anyone has any ideas, or experiences to share. Thanks TMB-

Went to wikiki beack and fuck that to many people me and my mom went for 10 days a few years back... def go to the pearl harbor tour and look at the submarines they are cool and we went to the plane museum, the pineapple dole plant,and we went and hiked this big mt that overlooked the ocean and there is an old ww2 bunker u can look out of its cool
