Where do amber trichomes first appear? Pics Inc

Hi,

Im doing my first grow and all my plants trichomes have been cloudy for about 2 weeks now. I was just wondering how long it takes for the trichomes to begin to turn amber and where on the plant does this first begin? Is it lower down where the buds have had longer to mature or is it near the top?

Im only asking as I have been using a X30 magnifier the past 2 weeks in anticipation of them turning amber and still nothing. I even stopped feeding one of them nutes last feed as I was sure the time was soon haha.

On another note my buds are getting some nice purple growth in places which looks really cool. Hopefully they will be nice colourful buds.

Here's a tease:

Any help is appreciated,

Peace

usually they turn amber on the sugar leaves first and work their way in towards the buddz. check them daily if not multiple times a day. trichs can change quickly. just two days ago i had lots of cloudy with some clear and i thought i had atleast a week left. then yesterday i checked and what do you know... trichs were starting to go amber on me, most of the clear ones went cloudy also. flushed her one more time and threw her ass in the dark. gonna chop them late tonight or tomorow.

Hate to sound stupid but what are the sugar leaves?

Little frosty ones closest that surround the buds. Those look like they're getting close, how many weeks flowering?

Thanks,

They've been flowering for about 8 weeks now. The strain is meant to be ready around this time, but its is my first grow ever and its with CFL's using organic soil + nutes so I wasnt expecting it to be ready on time.

I have another strain growing but they appear to be a little further away from the one in the pics.

keep em green man, looking good. After you flower a few times you can see the plants begin to get an "amber" tinge... Its beautiful! :bigjoint:

Thanks,

At first I thought they had that amber tinge but it was just because my trichomes went cloudy and the red CFL gave them an amber tinge, but when I looked closely they were just cloudy haha.

Just another question. She's due a feed in 4 days. Should I use nutes or plain water again? It would be her 3rd feed without nutes. But she was suffering from nute burn when I first gave her plain water a week and a half ago.

Just ride it out with straight water hopefully she'll show a little color for you. I would suspect that your going to want to harvest within the next week -10 days.

I like mostly cloudy with a little clear and amber, and would harvest in 4-5... jmo.

Will do!

Fingers crossed I see some amber trichomes soon. What is the ideal ratio of amber to cloudy for harvesting? I was thinking just 15% amber or is that to low? How rapidly do they appear? What would be my time frame for them reaching 15% amber once they first start to appear?

I'm not gonna give you the whole degradation of thc and conversion to cbd info because i don't honestly know/believe all the hype. But mostly milky is ideal. I personally harvest two days after I see amber... (48hrs darkness). Shooting for mostly cloudy is belief to be the time frame you're shooting for max thc. If your looking to get more of a "couchlock" effect then cut at 30-50% amber. If you have smoke its not as hard to leave them up for a few extra days, you'll notice when they stop growing and begin to fully ripen... if its not already happening.. :bigjoint:

Im in the same boath so to speak ..

8 weeks in to flowering tomorrrow.. have watch the thricomes get more and more cloudy over the last 2 weeks or so.. since the swelling was done ..

and now most are milky and the fist amber did show up a week ago or so .. and 3 days ago I had maybe 5% amber and 5% clear and rest is cloudy/milky ..

so I gave em the last good watering and 2 days more light .. and now on the 3th day I let em stay in the dark for 36-48 hrs (when I get up sunday morning)

hope I get some good smoke .. fist time I haverst base on thricomes ..

back in the days we haverst based on the brown/oranges hairs .. did`t know anything about thricomes .. tho I reccon our 5% THC pot wouldnt have shown many thricomes anyway (note: this was back in the days when internet and Femi seeds and stuff like that was`t around)

now a question .. as I understand the amber is just the color the fruit gets when its realy mature ..
so will it get more amber after dry/cureing ? will it continue to mature ? like a tomato or bananna etc. ?

Yessir... THC continues to degrade when its drying and curing. Whether it changes the high or not at that point..... I dont think so/ know.

You guys are sure worried about harvesting at the "perfect" time... :) theres usually a 5-14 day period where you harvest ripe buds... when you are ready to chop, you chop :bigjoint:

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the responses. When I got up today I still had no amber trichomes! Are they really noticeable or am I missing something?haha. I will be watering her on tuesday. Should I go with plain water or give her a small feed? As im still probably 2 weeks away.....

I carnt wait to get to where you are Slipon, I look forward to the pics. Hopefully all mine will be done within a month.

well I also keepd looking and looking .. well last two weeks or so ...

fist two weeks they made the stretch .. then I had like two weeks or white hairs building up all over ..

then two weeks when bud did swell up a lot ..
and then I had two weeks when they did´t do mouch .. other then a litte foxtaling .. but beside that .. all I could see was that they matured more and more ..

after fist week (week 7) I had like 50% cloudy ..

last week it did go fast .. fist I saw a single amber thricome .. then 2 days before haverst I had 5% amber and maybe 80% cloudy/milky ..

So what happened to the other 15%?haha

Mine are near enough all milky. Surely some amber ones will appear within the week and if so would that mean im only about a week away from harvest from my first amber? If that is the case then I should definately just use plain water as it would mean they're no further than 2 weeks away from harvest. Also are they obvious to spot with a X30 magnifier?
