I've been looking at LED cases, does anyone know how or where they are made? or a place i could order a few from that are pre built? i'd like to try and put a lighting system together that could possibly be a future prototype for an actual led light product :D

They're in China. They have metal shops out the Wazoo in China. They probably pay a buck a case for them there in the home land.

Sure. You can set up a contract with them and give them design specs, then order the minimum 10,000 cases.

You would think just providing cool parts to diy'ers would be more lucrative like cases HEAT SINKS! Lens options, cut to length and screw together extrusions ect ect .

As no one wants the prebuilds anymore

And wouldnt it suck to have a lot built then have the next new led put it on the back page of news.

Just a laymens thoughts :)

Its just stamped steel. Any competent machine shop could make one to your specs.

The thing is, bunching all the LEDs together is a poor configuration. It's much better to have the LEDs spread out to give an even light spread and better heat dissipation. It's why boards, strips, or multiple COBs are the standard for good lights.

You can find various manufacturers on Alibaba but will need to find offered molds that would house your components without major alterations to avoid a mold fee. If you are planning on building any quantity at all it would be well worth it to pay a mold fee and collaborate with the manufacturer to make your design happen.

OTOH, passive coolers are perhaps better off on open frames. :D

That depends. I have a setup where it is necessary to keep the cobs close together for best coverage. For a flat horizontal canopy, sure, spreading out that LES is the best bet.

Alibaba.

As rahz sed you need to find an off the shelf model, which means buying a few samples and seeing if the components fit inside...Its a rabbit hole ive already been down and in the end i gave up as they offer nothing over open frame designs anyway.
