Where can you find reliable & UNBIASED information about LED lighting?

the reason they'll give you a great deal on their lights, is their lights are crap and they could sell them for half the price they are and still make a profit. they buy bottom bin chips in bulk, and pay literally pennies a piece for them.
Well said

Sad part is.. Nobody will hear you unless you are telling them what they want...

no one ever hears me, i'm used to it. i NEVER tell people what they want to hear, i (at least try) to tell them what they NEED to hear. they hardly ever hear it, but at least i can feel absolved of responsibility for their failure

I hear you Roger, I have been reading more and more about LED grow lights I would like to use them but everyone is right could buy 3 or 4 HPS set up lights for 1 black dog LED. they are very powerful close to the canopy but when you raise it higher you start to lose a quite a bit more power. Example you have it 42 inches above and I think you lose more then 25% of the output to the canopy when it was at 30 inches. So I will go with HPS.
The problem I had with the sales guy at all the LED stores is claiming 40% higher yield with their lights.
I know people get paid to do positive reviews on Amazon etc but when I read reviews I try and only read the negative ones.
I just want to find the right setup and was hopping LED would be it even if the start up cost would be higher.

there are great leds out there, companies like Timber and HLG make good products. they buy good chips and good drivers, and know what they're talking about. the start up cost is higher, but the energy savings, and durability of the light, will make up for it in a few crops.
hps is good, proven tech, and i use it myself for the moment, but i'm saving up to replace them. looking hard at QBs from hlg, possibly supplemented with samsung strips

ONE of the many benefits of. FYI black dogs have lots of fleas. LEDs is you can keep them ~ 28" above with zero heat stress. Not many leds sold in stores are as good as those purchased direct

and then there's the ongoing energy savings

Ive been keeping my QB288's 13" above my canopy and they are loving it. No heat stress what so ever. Praying ungodly amount.

You get some great responses when you do that, you should have seen the tantrum thrown on another forum when someone thought he was going to get a fantastic deal on a genuine 29w from the wall 5000K led floodlight for vegging, and then I pointed out he could get EXACTLY the same type of fitting, pulling exactly the same power from the wall, for less than a third of the $100 he spent on a lump of crap assembled in Louisiana using the same parts as the cheap chinese versions found on Amazon, Ebay, AliExpress, etc, or half the price had he bought it from the likes of Lowes or Home Depot

He ranted and ranted about how these cheap ones don't pull the same power even when confronted with datasheets and so on proving what I was saying, all the evidence put right in front of his nose and he ignored it because he didn't want to accept the fact that he must have a glass penis because someone sure saw him coming.

I leave these people alone now, for it's clear that if they only had $0.02 in their bank account they would still have more money than sense and I've got better things to do with my time than deal with imbeciles.

People will buy any shit.

Samsung strips are $50 for 100W roughly... They are not going to let some cheapass manufacturer undercut them with their own LEDs.

Don't mess around with the single row strips unless you are a pro grower with lots of experience at sea of green.

I do not get paid, or rewarded in any way, I am just reporting on what I actually used and documented on here.

Go Strips or pay to much. Your choice.
It sure wouldn't be one of them cheap floodlights, that's for sure.

Not sure what my next one will be, QB's are tempting for the simplicity of building but strips give you more options regarding "colour" mix and coverage. Guess it all depends on whether I decide to expand what I do now or not, especially as SWMBO has already nagged at me for even thinking of taking things further.

Hehe

That's never a problem here in Euroland, especially with the lack of customs costs too. Hell, even the likes of AliExpress run warehouses in Germany so the delivery costs are cut to a minimum using DHL and there's no customs to worry about either.

There are some benefits to not living in that magical land called Fourecks (Read the Discworld books if you don't get the joke), but the weather ain't one of them.

I own a black dog...they are expensive ...they are also an amazing light to grow with. I'm not sure why so much hate towards their stuff. I guess it's because they are so expensive but that seem like a shitty reason to hate on a product that performs so well

If it's value you seek then the light is cheap...I'm still struggling to see why someone would hate on it. They have more evidence and available information to back their product than any other Led light company hands down. Their R/D is nothing short of amazing. I did at least 50 hours of research and reading before I finally struggled to let go of enough money to buy the light but it's an incredible product no mater what you think of the price. That's like saying a Ferrari is a piece of shit because you can't afford one.
