When to clone?

Is there a specific time in the plant's life when most growers take cuttings from it? I have a plant that started from seed so obviously I'll have to wait until I can confirm a female during the flower stage but under normal circumstances are there any "rules" for when cuttings should be taken? Also, how many cuttings are usually taken from a mother at one time?

I try to never take more than 1/4 of the plant at a time for cuttings. I usually wait until the plant is mature (alternating nodes) and the branches I want to take have at least 3 potential bus sites before taking the cutting. Some people take cuttings up until 2 weeks into flowering. I only take them during the veg stage.

You can take has many cuttings has you want has long has you don't cut the main head stem.Keeping a mother plant is the way to go though because cloneing every grow means that you have to keep all them clones around for 8/9 week. But if you have a mother plant you have the one plant to worry about and once it get about a foot tall it becomes realy hardy and has long has you feed reg it will last some time. But i only keep my mother plants for a max of 6 month. But i am sure that the longer the mother plant is kept the more potent the cannabis becomes.

Mr. G-You ever clip a bud when it's only 2-3 weeks into flowering and try and light it up?

Great info guys, thanks! I plan on cloning right at the end of veg stage before they go into the flower room so I can sync up the veg/flower rooms and have something going at all times.

Take cuttings before flower.

If it turns out to be a male, just throw out the clones.
