When to begin lighting

Hello RIU forums!
After being a smoker for most of my life, and browsing through these forums, I've finally decided to start my first grow :hump:.

So I have a pretty good idea on how to take care of the plants once I get them going, but I haven't been able to find any info on when I should begin lighting them.

Am I supposed to start as soon as they surface, or wait until the first set of starter leaves are out?

thanks to all who reply :)

As soon as you see green it needs to have light. Keep the light as close as possible without burning. Keeping the light close will keep them from streching.

No problem man. Alot of people have helped me here. Its nice to be able to give back. Try to do the same! Good luck! Happy growing!

I start light immediately, before any sprout comes up. It seems in keeping with nature that way.

Hmm I see your point. Also if you guys don't mind me asking (although I know this has been discussed 1000000 times), what are your prefrences on 24/0 or 18/6 light schedules?
