When should I expect to see BUD?

I've recently moved into a new house in Lagos, Nigeria.....one of the first things I noticed was a small plant growing in the garden, I presume the workmen must have thrown some of there seed on the ground.

Anyway I planted this tiny plant in the back and about two months later I have a tree that is almost 6 feet high. My question is when can i tell if it is male or female and when can I expect to see any bud. At the moment all I have is lots of leaves and I'm desperate to have some west african home grown.

I now have another 3-4 inch plant growing alongside.

How long does it take in outdoor conditions for a plant to bud. Should I pull this one up and hope that the next does better.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I dont know anything about your location, however flowering starts when the light cycle gets cut back, or the days get shorter. As in 12/12.
Sex usually shows 1 to 2 weeks after flowering starts.
Do the days get shorter in Nigeria? If not you may have to make some artificial shade.

We get almost no variation in day light here.

The sun comes up at about 6.30am and goes down at around 7.00p.m.

so pretty much 12/12 all the time. Do I therefore need to give any intervention to get the flowering started? Is it only when flowering starts that you can tell whether you have male / female?

The positioning of the plant means that it is probably not in direct sun light all day as the fence arounds it gives some shade. Does this make a difference?
