When do you start flowering time

I dont mean to ask WHEN to start flowering.

Im asking about when you start the count down? If say the strain calls for 8 weeks of flowering, do you start at the sight of pistils or at the start of the 12/12 switch?

A strain that calls for 8 weeks of flowering has perfect temp/humidity/lighting conditions and in a properly maintained hydroponics system. That 8 weeks is usually about a week or two after switching to 12/12. If growing in soil/or you are inexperienced and not lucky, then expect at least 10 weeks if not 12 of flowering. Best bet is to just watch your trichome production with a magnifying class(as a norm they go from clear to milky/cloudy to amber/golden but should not be your only indicator of harvest time), your calyxes are swollen and the pistils are receding into them.

Good luck!

what he said^^^^ after a while u kinda know what to look for, rule of thumb for many is that when your ready to chop give it another week, every1is impatient and excited, its standard behaviour buddy.

Thanks guys.

I have a few grows under my belt but never really knew about the question asked.

I just read in the new high times mag that peak potency is when all the trics are clear or clear milky. They said once any of them turn amber it means the thc is degrading and starting to produce CBN or CBD I can't recall exactly.

I learned from this site to harvest when the trics are half cloudy and half amber. There seems to be alot of different info our there!!!

some people like a dark period between vegging and flowerin and some also do it the the end of flowering. The benefits are arguable( and believe me they WILL argue about it in here) Ive done it but before but i cant say ive really noticed much difference but give it a go if u want, it dont cost anything!

Flowering

These icons show the flowering time a strain needs in order to produce mature flowers (buds). With these icons you can easily distinguish between strains that have a very short flowering time and strains that need a little longer to reach their full potential.

Flowering time is a measurement of how long an indoor cannabis plant must be kept in the 12/12 flowering cycle in order to produce mature buds.

A cannabis plant’s flowering time is measured from the first day it is given a continuous cycle of 12 hours of light, followed by 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness.

Within 10-15 days of being placed in this cycle, most cannabis plants will show the first signs of flowers. Plants should be kept in 12/12 for the whole period indicated by their flowering time.

A cannabis strain’s indoor flowering time gives some indication of how long that variety would take to mature if grown outdoors in a suitable climate, but this should not be taken as an exact measurement. Due to changeable conditions, outdoor flowering usually takes longer than indoor.

Please note that unfavourable or irregular conditions in a grow room can slow budding in indoor plants and increase total flowering time.

If time is an important factor, these icons allow you to easily compare strains and select the variety that suits your needs.
