a plant has 3 stages in life. their is the seedling stage that last 4 weeks and then the vegataive stage that is another 4 weeks and then the final flowering stage that last between 6-14 weeks depending on the strain. and that is according to the bible of growing. and in just about every book i have read on the subject of mariujuna. but by the 4th week in the seedling stage she is pretty big. you still cant sex it till it is 6-8 weeks from germination. and that is when i take my clones and place the plant in flowering. that just me everyone has a difference of opion

Sorry to revisit an old topic, but I was trying to come up with some answers to this question. Over the past couple years, I've only done a few grows, and I've always counted "vegetative" growth from the moment I see the first set of leaves on the little seedling (not the cotyledons). From there I grow them for about four weeks.

My plants obviously don't get as big as they could, but once I get up and going again, I am going to maybe experiment with a six week veg time.

I quit obsessing over how many days things veg and flower. I chop and transplant things when they are ready. I eyeball it these days. It can create a logistical mess sometimes though as my flowering room is considerably smaller than I would like sometimes.
