What's the standard on cooking cannabutter?

I've read through a ton of threads about lots of different recipes but I was curious as to how long you all cook your butter and what heating method you use. I've done 1/2 oz to 1lb butter + water for a buffer to prevent burning in a crock pot on low over 12 hours and it turned out pretty strong but then I've tried methods using high heat at 4-6 hours and got a real weak batch....what's the best way to get the most potent butter w/o overcooking it?

and is 1/2 oz to 1lb butter enough? I sure hope so b/c I couldn't imagine sacrificing more than that on a butter batch.

I use a crock pot. I start out on high until I get everything up to temp with plenty of water in there. I make sure that the meds are dry and ground up as fine as possible in a food processor. Once it is up to temp I add the meds and turn it down to low and run it covered for about 8 hours. It is important to stir completely several times during the process. When it is done, I strain through cheesecloth and place in the fridge and let science do the rest.

What's your standard bud to butter ratio? Like 1/2oz bud to 1lb butter...? I used some good middies in my batch I did a ways back and cooked it into 7 cookies and it was rather potent.....just takes so much friggin herb to make fine butter.

Last time I used an once for a pound of butter and it was not enough. I will use an ounce to a 1/2 lb of butter next time.

My mistake on my earlier comment....I used 2 sticks which I think is 1/2lb butter to 1/2 oz so I was off there. Ya know those little packages of premixed cookie batter that you just add an egg and butter? Whatever those packages call for is what I used which I think was 2 sticks of butter so I think it was actually 1/2 oz to 2 sticks butter. If you had an oz to 4 sticks of butter you may want to recheck your preparation process b/c you shoulda had a solid batch out of that. Maybe you didn't cook it long enough or cooked at too high a temp? If your cookies aren't sticky and stinking of potent weed....you didn't do it right :)

I go with 1/2 oz per 1/2 pound.
1/4 one stick of butter.

and those cookies in a package are awesome to use the butter in.

I take my herb and put iut in a mason jar with whatever amount of butter needed and boil it for hours.
It gets strained thru a collander we have thats small, like a chinois (for you culinary heads.)
I keep the herb after its been strained for use later.
Put the butter in a tupperware container and use when needed.

You mean like a hard boil or just a simmer? I thought I read somewhere that the thc vapes at like 400 (F) or something so I was real freaked about boiling in my crock pot on hight....I dunno if it would even get to 400 (F) but then again I guess I never put a thermometer in a pot of boiling water. How many hours do you let it go for and what in gods name to you use the strained herb for? (dog treat fillers?)

When I make butter, I do not use proper buds. I use the close trim and the popcorn buds. I save it up and 2-3 grows gives me 2-3 ozs of material to cook with. I use that to make 1.5-2 pounds of butter depending on the amount of medicine. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Water boils at 212 °F at standard pressure. But I believe that he is boiling the jar in a bath like jarring pickles or something. Correct me if I am wrong Jesus.

Ok now that sounds like a good idea to try there....crock pot was just always the easiest for me the 2 times I tried making it.... Set it and forget it!

I used lower branches and leaves from trim with tons of crystals and stickyness it was a huge bowl full, didn't think it would all make it in the pot, had to let it boil and cook down. used 1 lb of butter, not Margarine. I made a cake with it a bbq and let me tell you in the end only some of the cake was left. Talk about Gorging on food, lmao
