I'm using soil and just wondering what peoples opinions are on the different brands?
The problem with asking this sort of question is that 90% of the people growing on this site really have no clue as to what they're doing. Go into the Grow Journal section, find a few seasoned growers and find out what they're using. Good luck!

what homebrewer said is true there alot of beginner growers on the site, Ive got over 15 years in growing in soil most with
pro mix, later switching to FF ocean then and lastly sunshine 4. now im just doing hydro no more soil but if I had to put my
2 cents in on a good brand Id say sunshine 4, hope this helps

promix and sunshine aren't soil, they're soilless mixes. i know it sounds like i'm splitting hairs but a lot of soil growers mix and 'brew' their soils with the aim of not having to give liquid ferts at all.

although that's *our goal, we haven't gotten to that point yet. we've been using grotek's line for the last 5 years (well, i used it for a while in my own show before we moved in together so i guess we've been using it for a combined 9 or so) (we just recently realised that our combined experience is older than either of us - and it's not like we're older'n shit or anything). these days, we use it and some of their organic additives to supplement our soilless+manure+goodies soil.

i completely agree with riddleme's 'learning' your ferts idea.... so very true. find what you love and stick with it. we've used (and loved) grotek for long enough that now that we're introducing less predictable nute delivery systems via our dirt, we're still comfortably able to use it to supplement with it towards the end (we don't seem to have that part of the soil mix dialed in yet).

Does it only have to be one?
I use GH GMB at 800-1100ppm 2-2-2 untill week 4.
Then i start A+B connoisseur at 900ppm per week. Its strong. Depending on how fast the pots dries out, on a normal week i water twice both at 500ppm A+B to last 8 days. Sometimes i bloom with GMB and use about 500-650ppm every watering.
At week 4 they need alot of nutrients. My additives are Voodoo juice and B52 both used at differnt times and half strenght each time.
A+B lacks sulfer so i add a touch of GROW which contains extra nitrgen, sulfer etc.
I do sog so Voodoo juice is a good to make plants strong in a fair amount of veg time. bout 7-10 days.
I also use koolbloom dry to make my buds sticky and stinky. Its really good for color and maturing your plants. Its an additive so use at half strenght. Its strong stuff.
ANyways the whole point of this is use what keeps your plants happy and healthy. Does it matter what keeps them healthy?
A+B may be pricey but Its strong stuff and used at a much lower rate.

the way i understand it, they're both sphagnum-based potting mixes - a bit different from actual 'soil'. (it can get confusing because a lot of retailers sell them as 'potting soil' because it looks, smells, and behaves a lot like soil, but it's a misnomer; 'potting mix' is more accurate.) (<-again, not to split hairs or anything....)

Humboldt county's has a really easy three part that has worked alot better for me then anything else. Except advance nutrients are better but way to expensive. Ive literally tried them all, fox farm, botanicare etc.. humboldts county is way better

Your budget and blind faith in a product is what will guide you to the product that suits you ...and then you will recommend that to others in the future .

"The decision to buy and use a product is often determined by the skill of the salesperson not the efficacy of the product."
I go to buy certain products for certain situations not just wonder around in the store and hope someone know what I want? People do a little research on this subject and there would not be so many conflicting stories. Is this what the general population is doing? Personally I recommend a 3 part to all my clients due to ease of use and most are complete to some degree, I then tell them once you understand why you are using these products then by all means the world is your oyster...and you know what, they generally stay with what they know...so what does that tell you...humans are creatures of habit. I recommend ANY 3 PART nutrient line as they will give you the most flexibility when compared to 2 part or single formulations. JAS

I'm a fan of Botanicare's Pure Blend Pro Grow and Bloom with their Cal Mag and Sweet Raw
Been using PBP for years, love it & cal mag, I also use liqud karma, with great results. I love the liquid ferts, so easy. Just mix it with your regular watering cycle. I do 3 straight fert waterings , then water only, back to 3 etc.. flush at 10 days.
