What's eating my plants?

So I germinated my seeds this week and planted them (9 Pure Power Plants) in pots outside in a heavily wooded area. I went to check on them about 2 days later and had the feeling that I had buried the seeds too deep, so I brought them up a bit. I went to check on them yesterday and saw 3 of them doing fine but the rest were non-existent. I examined the pots closer and it looked like something had spit into the pot, like a translucent slime or something. This led me to believe that somethings ate the little seedlings... Is this common? Do I need to be careful about my plants that are doing fine, like get bug spray or something? What brand do you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

I'm no pro or anything but if there is a slime I doubt it was a bug. Probably an animal. Maybe try some cagess of some kind.. IMO:peace:

your most likely cause would be slugs in my opinion. Damascus earth or a mountain of egg shells is your best defense in a circle around them .

yeah, defenetly slugs-slyme=slugs.put up some bug snails or pour salt ring over you plot, just make sure tis far away 4 your plot.

everyone's thoughts have been accurate...slugs are the culprit in this caper. However, don't put salt around your plot...the salt will leach into the soil and be absorbed by your plant's root system and cause hypertrophy and kill your plants.

UPDATE...Thank you all for your advice! Ok, so I don't really know if they are a big threat, but tell me what you guys think--ive checked on them since then and 6/9 are growing now (one of them might be dead since it was buried under soil, is yellow, and I accidentally tore the leaves off). The slime was not present when I last checked and I didn't do anything to the pots...so they must have gone away or something... Do I need to worry about them now? I'm going to check on them soon so I will update you all again.

Don't ignore your slug issue...they will ruin your crop!
