What's "average yield"?

On a lot of Strain descriptions you see them saying above average yields/average yields now I wondered as a noob how the fuck am I supposed to know what I am to expect if they tell me the yield on this strain is average? So can you guys help me out and tell me what I can except of a average yielding plant?

From my experiences, average yield from an indoor grown plant under 400 watts with one-topping and 30 days veg is around 2-2.5 oz.

average = 550-600 grams under 600w HPS SOG. Above average normaly meens you can get above 1g pr watt

Thats well below average

You are comparing SOG to 1 top 30 day veg....

1 top 30 day veg is going to get about 2.5 oz per plant on average. If you grow 4 plants in the box you end up with about 10z (if you 1 top, 30 day veg).

Its tough to d othat because so much of yield depends on how you're growing them.

Under *OPTIMAL* conditions, a GOOD grower can get about 1 gram per watt of light used with a 400+ watt HPS system. But you're talking yields with good strains, sea of green, well dialed in hydroponics, etc. The best growers, with the best strains and setups can exceed that amount.

For a new grower, if you can get half that yield, you're actually doing pretty well.

FYI, 400 grams = 14 ounces.

Meh...

Grow logs are a better source of realistic yield expectations IMO.

A grow log allows you to mirror the grow conditions that proved to be successful for another grower, and as you watch your plants develop, you can compare their rate of growth with the pics posted in the grow log. This gives you a much more realistic yield expectation IMO, and being a n00b, if you get close to it, or exceed it, you're doing alright.

i tell you, you'll get a really fast yield of superior gear out of john sinclair's sativa trans-love, especially if you clone it and harvest early. i can't say how it compares to yield to the most commercial strains, but it left a bunch of similar smoking generic hazes in the dust for crazy fast budding in a small space and it gave my masterkush autos that had a flowering head start a run for their money in quick yields in a small space.

yield is hard to quantify as time is a factor. at least back around '05, 400 grams per square meter was considered cash cropping average, but there are some larger and slower flowering strains out there that have better buzzes that yield up to 750 grams. SCROGing might help and how long your vedge makes a difference too. there's so many factors

lol I hell no won't harvest anything "early" I'd rather have them get to the max power, I wont get better if I don't want to achieve the top quality product.I don't want to cash crop more like get some straight as dank while making a bit of cash to compensate the invested money.I'll probably SOG Goji now maybe if I get it Rappers Delight from Sin Sity Seeds and basically all there strain says "average to above average yielding" so I figured whats the average?Finding grows is hard as these strains have less grows and I can't find any infos on the yield often only pics and nice bud porn (for the goji) but no real numbers. But since they are OG Kush strains I assume yield can be pretty low.Probably going to SOG or Mainline can't decide, but I'll think about that later. Now I wanted to know if 15-20g from one of these strains per plant(SOG probably 1 gal pot) is achievable or considered as average?

There's a thread on here somewhere called "The 12/12 from seed thread" by a grower that goes by Del.

Check it out and you will see the yield results for a variety of different strains grown using an approach similar to yours. Some of those growers pull some crazy yields off of single plants using their technique, so your 15-20g per is not unrealistic at all IMO.

I mean in a SOG one gal pot..at least for the 15-20g part.if I take other method would probably yield way more but less plants..so no idea whats better in the end..still have to decicde whether SOG or Mainline but as I am a noob probably SOG to get some experience and then run a mainline and see if I yield more.

I would have to say average yield would be a gpw ratio of .55-.6 for a new grower, thats what i achieved when I first started a year ago, now im around .7-.75 with no upgrades to the room "no co2, kind of high temps (low 80s high 70s)"

Well no clear answer from the seed company only that 1g per watt is easily achievable and I would be happy with that.More than happy lol...

yeah but if I get that 20g per plant I have my 1g per watt half would be ok for the first grow I think but I think I can make it sometime^^

btw bodhi said that one ounce in 1gal pot with veg would yield about an ounce so without veg I might get to the 20 :)
