my parents own a restaurant and they pay some one to dispose of there veg oil. it would be great if it were worth something.

really? here in NC we had a few "grease" thefts and on the news they said that the company removing said grease pays the restaurant and then they resell it.

so yeah, it is worth something.

but, in reality, there's no way veggie oil could be a feasible alternative. when i think about all the cars all over the world, and i think about all the plastics..............i'm amazed oil is $135/barrel. i have no idea what a feasible alternative would be...........maybe switchgrass, or sugar cane.

bloomberg had a report about the Bakken formation in the dakotas and the upper estimate was over 400billion barrels, but a recent survey suggests only 4 billion - huge discrepency ya think? anyway the stuff is deep - 2 miles beneath the surface and only about 22 ft wide, spanning thousands of miles - so its real tricky to hit a sweet spot.

Bloomberg.com: News

no matter what though, we need oil to transisition towards a new fuel if we want to have some semblance of the lifestyle we have now.

personally, i've been looking into some used BMW motorcycles. thats my opinion - i think we'll all be driving more on two wheels to get to work, and use the car for the grocery getter once a week.

I love BMW.

BMW Hydrogen 7 is a revolutionary development within the BMW 7 series as a whole: The engine, suspension and body of this new model are based on the overall vehicle concept carried over from the BMW 760i and BMW 760Li Saloons. At the same time BMW Hydrogen 7 features a dual-mode twelve-cylinder combustion power unit able to run on both hydrogen and conventional gasoline. Maximum output is 191 kW/260 hp, accelerating BMW’s Hydrogen Saloon to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds. Top speed of BMW Hydrogen 7, in turn, is limited electronically to 230 km/h or 143 mph.

They dont charge if you just take it.
Theres other options besides veggie oil too, tranny fluid for example.
Mm.. mm mm. People are getting into BIG trouble in California for not paying ROAD TAX on the oil they're using, especially those small collectors. EVEN IF they give it away, they're supposed to pay a road tax on it.

Hempcar.org-Henry Ford

"There is fuel in every bit of vegetable matter that can be fermented. There's enough alcohol in one year's yield of an acre of potatoes to drive the machinery necessary to cultivate the fields for a hundred years."
 I found a few BIG plants in our compost pile out on the side there, and the other day I pulled 'em up. We were growing potatoes.

In any event, in states like California, as I understand it, anything that puts a vehicle on the road is supposed to be taxed. Which is the missing component, if I understand correctly, of the power used for hybrids that get recharged electrically. I actually don't know much about how that works. :?

All I'll say is its 5.7L of turbocharged fury and probably does belong in a Road Warrior movie with how much rust is on it. It is too much fun to give up even with 5$ a gallon looking possible.

I'd miss the lub of the idle and the roar as I let her open up.

There's virtually NO public transportation here, unless you're going to downtown Detroit. And there's not much going on there, so ...

Basically, I'm either walking or not going to places I want to be. I don't drive to begin with (can't, long story ... but I just can't), but I've always paid people for gas. I remember when handing a friend $10 for gas was actually a generous gesture...

There is a company called WATER4GAS check it out....You can add it to ANY vehicle...Running oil even vegitable oil pollutes..thier is plenty of hydrogen in water and when you take it out with electrolysis(sp) you get browns gas..you can run browns gas with your existing gas as a helper or you can runn your whole car on it....when you runn it with regular gas you can like 100 mpg yes i said 100..pending on how you doit you can get more............just my 2 cents
