If I wanted to install a piece of glass in a 1000W HPS light so It could be hung closer to a plant during flowering, what type of glass should be used? Would it have to be "Tempered Glass", and how thick should it be? Thanks in advance!

Thanks Jeffdogg, just want to be sure. That light throws some serious heat. Would hate to wind up with shattered glass all in my smoke. Can I get a confirmation on this? Thanks!

You'll need tempered glass as allready mentioned but it wont be normal strength or thickness either, what you want is tripple strength tempered,i paid about $25 for mine at a glass shop but you can order them online for the same price.

One very important detail is this, whatever air circulation system you plan on using with the light make damm sure the fan pushing or pulling cold air through the light comes on 5 minutes or longer before lights on,having cold air hit hot glass will shatter it on the spot,no matter the temper.

You'd be much better off just buying a new reflector with a built-in lens. It'll only cost you about $100 and the lens will have a gasket to keep the bulb area sealed.
