what to do with this odd loft space?

hey - still waiting on seeds to get here for first grow, using a 2x4 closet space for that but should be pretty well figured out on that unless something comes up. thinking about it, i don't think that'll be enough space to be self sufficient in my weed supply (would need 2oz+ every month) - so because the whole point of growing is to not have to buy it anymore, i think i'll need to figure out how to grow in this space as well.

the room i want to use is really odd - just a loft we use for storage. the center of the room has a height of 70", but only is that tall for the 28" then angles down. i was thinking maybe to grab a tent like this one http://hydrobuilder.com/secret-jardin-wide-dark-street-2-5-2-x-4-x-5-6.html as it seems like it would be a perfect fit sideways in the center at the end of the room by the far window.
considering the height restrictions - what type of lighting would you suggest?
would you guys suggest doing something different altogether? just trying to find some direction and not order anything until people with experience can give me some input :3

thanks guys

Ive been reading about great results from the sunsystem 315 LEC. Personally thats what Im going to try next..low heat/watt draw. Someone I know grew a couple plants in a 2x4 with a 400watt hps and got about 2oz off each plant..pretty damn good in my book

Look at the RoofQube loft tent for that kind of space etc

lol that tent pic made me laugh for some reason. no clue they made those - i'll def look into it, thanks for the heads up.

n thanks for the light recommendation, looks like that'd be just right for the space. can't decide yet if hps or cob led is how i wanna do the tent ><

I would say scrap tent idea ... Paint or line walls with panda film or similar mylar
( NOT FOIL ) .... You're not baking a potato. Assess how and where you can provide intake air and MORE importantly the exhaust ( heat ). Semi gloss white walls work well too .

You will trap much heat in a space that is setup as a small space within a small space ( like a tent ).

My 2¢

smart - i kind of thought the same but wasn't sure. thanks for bringing that up.

t's frustrating because the room is so odd shaped, can't grow much on the sides of the room because of the steep angle. i measured and that roofqube thing is perfect but nowhere to buy in the USA, every site selling it is UK and doesn't ship here :\

talked it over with significant other and they much prefer the idea of a tent for stealth reasons (though we could easily cover the windows so light isn't leaking out or anything) but i sort of agree - nice to have it contained and all that, but could really go either way. thought i was ready to start ordering the stuff i need for this but now i'm unsure lol, that's good tho

good lord - are there any 4x4x5 foot (48x48x60") grow tents that AREN'T the gorilla grow shorty? i can't believe the difficulty i'm having in finding one lol

you have a window at one end of the room. put your tent close to the window, use passive intake and have your exhaust go out the window. i have a friend who put the shell of a window ac in the window, and vents out of that, if anyone hears air blowing out of it, they think nothing of it.
hps gives good results, and they're pretty cheap, but they make a lot of heat. if you can afford it, good cob leds are the way to go, way more efficient, lower light bill and lower heat.
good luck finding the tent you want to find, i looked for three days for the dimensions i wanted and had to settle for the closest thing i could find.

great advice - i thought the same but also don't want to much cold air coming in or too cold of air coming in (winter will come soon here in minnesconsin lol) , and don't want any possible smell to feed out of my house (probably 20 feet of space between that window and neighbors house but not sure if that's enough)

and yeah, think i'm gonna settle on the gorilla grow shorty. honest to god the only grow tent i can find that'll be short enough and wide enough - it's a damn shame they don't make it in a 'lite' version like their other tents tho - wasn't expecting to spend that much on the tent xD

anyway i think the answer for now is attempt the tent with a tasty led setup, if that creates issues though i'll try the open room idea - good advice in here. thanks for helping guys.

they're really missing out not making these available in the states, they'd sell a metric buttload
i know :O

there are actually some knock offs that i saw on ebay that looked good enough but went n remeasured the ceiling height i have to work with - 70" really without much/any wiggle room. maybe 70" and a cenitimeter if you pushed the carpet down hard or something... these things might not fit.. didn't notice 180cm technically comes out to 70.8661" (the US knock off expressed it at 71", but said 70" for the ones on the UK sites - i'm sure it was just a difference of rounding, but didn't want to chance it). the rest of the dimensions would work, but on the off chance that it wouldn't fit because of half a fucking inch i just figured i'll go with a different tent (4x4 gorilla shorty) :\ haven't pulled the trigger yet because $350 for a tent is just insane to me :( then again so is $600+ for a light, $150 on seeds, etc. xD

yeah, i feel you on the 'search harder and you'll find it' thing, but if i spend 20 minutes googling different search terms and can't find what i want, it's hard to think it's out there ><

anyway, bit the bullet on the 4x4 gorilla shorty tent. i can turn the heat off going up to the loft in winter and vent out into the attic space if i need (there's little doors on each side of the room going to the attic, i find it super creepy but may come in handy for growing xD)

only problem now is figuring out if cob led fixtures can handle a 5'3" tall tent (manufacturers recommend 2-3 feet above canopy, gonna be a close call lol)

a cob takes WAY less room than a HPS, even in a cooltube fixture. and you don't need a duct sticking out of it leading to a fan.
you can have a cob 3 or 4 inches from the roof of your tent with a fan blowing in there and get the most out of your available vertical space.
i use both actually, and as soon as i can afford it my 400 watt hps is gonna get replaced with cobs, and the big exhaust fan and ducting is going in the closet next to it.
