I've had buds finish just fine even though they finished almost 2' from bulb lol. @1150 watts.
There has got to be decent fan action in between the fixture and canopy, but not blowing on bulb though.
3' is the max number to shoot for, especially with these comercial fixtures. Because heat and footprint.
Good to know.
My main issue with what he was saying is he is running his DE fixtures 1.5 foot above the plants NO AC NO AIR Circulation...
There is no way he isnt frying his plants at that height.
a Regular 1k HPS would damage a plant at that height without air or ac or a cooltube.
thats all i have been trying to get across here.

It depends how many lights you're running for the cross lighting. De is all about cross lighting and the lighting between 2 lights is just as bright or brighter than directly under the light. I keep mine at 3.5' with only side cross lighting, if I had front and back cross lighting with more lights, shoot at least 4 or 5'. You can see their pretty high up there with out hosting out a tape measure

Look a tad high.
You running any AC or Air?
3 foot should be good, any higher and your loosing serious umol.
Nice plants though :)

WOOOOW

Those are FAAAAARRRRRR

I mean REALLY FAR...

I have the same lights just with aircooled hoods, same ballasts...(atleast they look similar)..

Mine are a LOT closer but my footprint is a LOOOOOT less....

I do need more footprint. What are your lux measurement @ 1000W on the canopy?? I want 60K on the tops... your probably on 20K???

If these lights can be that far then I think I am wasting footprint....please advise...

Im using fans and extractor fans. NO AC though. If anything I have noticed the plants seem to be more hungry than under my old 600's (Ushio Bulbs HPS)... (Is this possible?? under my 600HPS I was feeding 1.2-1.4 EC and plants were fine. Under these all my plants have cal/mag def. I am @ 1.7EC currently...that too high??? im in coco).

Thanks! Air in/out for the winter and ac for summer time. I'm glad I vegged the next batch a little bigger, they should be able to get tall enough for the light to be about 3' away. Wish I had Rachet ropes to lower or raise them but they seem to be doing OK so far just growing up to the light. Bet the buds would have stacked a bit closer if I had the light lower in the beginning though

The lights are nanolux. The top of the trellis is 3.5' below the light lol. I'll get the light meter out tonight and check, I think I was getting 40000lux or so, foot prints are about 5x5-5x6

I keep my lamps up high and use stands to keep the canopy even. As they grow I use lower stands. My plants are all at different stages perpetually so really I have no other choice.

I wish I could do that! I used to, hell I wish I could have various stages of flower, too haha. My rooms set up for drip irrigation or ebb flow so everything has to be the same height and I can only really but plants in 1x a month. I get none of the fun

How tall are you're plants from the top of the pot to tip of the plants, porky? You'd be surprised, you might get more yield with the lights higher, I'd shoot for 2.5' if you want to live on the edge

They are around 2.5-3ft tall now...

This is my first run with DE HPS... I have always had the idea the closer to the lights the better without heat being an issue.. Right now they are 84f at the tops using an IR sensor.. So temps are fine.

I have found that 30,000 lux + and you will have nice thick buds... All my buds sites I aim to hit that number, if it ain't receiving enough light then I take it as a clone.

I did test the 1150W boost function and I can confirm it boosts the lux by 10 percent... I will use the additional 150w from week 3-6 flower...

#1. Going to trim some fan leaves .
#2. I'm going to just buy 2 or 3 t5 2ft fixtures & place in corners .
& possibly one behind plants // (optional)

Will post pictures of how they are after a week;

I want to start flowering soon so want to get this out of the way , while they are in veg.

Right on , well I measured the light with the lux meter and the lux does drop way off after 3 feet , and to figure I have plants 4.5' under the light haha. I mean, at 3.5' you lose 40% of the Lux. I won't be dropping them to 2 feet, but the next batch I'm flowering Friday I just bought rachet light hangers. I'm going to keep the light 3' above at all times. The cool thing is, it's the same strains , so I'll be able to do a perfect side by side. Something tells me 2.5-3' between canopy and light will give me a much much better harvest. I'm leaving the other sides lights that's already in flower where they are , at 3.5+' above (only because I can't get in there to add the hangers haha) . The lux was only 25k, hopefully the par is a lot better than the lux at that height. @Aeroknow did you know just 8" more than 3' you lose almost 50% of the light lux ? Something tells me I won't have rock hard bud on that side haha

If we are using the same lights, I suggest we do a grow off?? To determine the best distance... Your area is way larger than mine but with less lux... Which method will yield better results??

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm game! I know my first test run with the DE , I had the light about 3' away , similar footprint though. It did well considering I just let them do their thing while I was moving. I'll leave the lights up where they are on the right side of my room but I'll also lower the lights on the left side when I flower the other plants tomorrow . Should give a good test result
