What Strain have you Mainlined?

A quick search of RIU for Mainline or some variant generates and ever growing number of hits, indicating that Nugbuckets Main-Lining techique is getting a lot of attention. With one successful Mainlining effort under my belt and a number of others in flower, I thought I'd start a thread for people to share the strains they have tried to Mainline, whether they were successful, how cooperative the strain was, etc.


Female Seeds WWxBB from seed: Successful. Very cooperative, took very well to training with 16 heads.

Female Seeds WWxBB from cutting: Successful. Very cooperative. Very cooperative, took very well to training with 8 heads.

Mandala Seeds from seed: Unsuccessful. Very difficult to work with. Branches grow slowly with tight inter-nodes and harden quickly. Need to allow extra time and attention.

Mandala Seeds from cutting: Successful. As above, very difficult to work with but lots of training and extra veg time to 12 nodes (she was a tri-node). Active pruning of under growth through 2nd week of flower required.

Positronics Grapefruit from cutting: Successful. Very cooperative. Easy to train to 8 heads.

Dope thread, i'll edit the post in a sec with what i've done but damn let's hope this one works out!

Well i've mainlinned:

.A-13: She liked it a lot. Pretty decent vegger so nothing wrong witht he topping. I'd made my topping to close and stressed them a bit but that's how you learn.
.Kaboom: She LOVED mainlinning. With her tendency to stretch in the first 3 weeks the technique was perfect and the bud formation is pretty impressive.
.Sour Kush aka headband from RP: She took some time to recover from the mainlinning topping but once those branches started growing she adapted really well. Topped for 8, will be bloomed at the end of the week.
.Holy Grail Kush by RP: Being a slower vegger she took more time. Branches dont grow symmetrical so she takes a lot of bending, waiting to see the result in a few week.
.Exodus Kush by RP: Mainlinned for two, i've worked on the lower bud to create a good canopy. She reacted pretty well to the technique i'll be topping for 4 and let her grow into a bush next time.
.Blue Cheese by barneys: This one doesnt have the one kola dominant side exodus kush has and the mainlining for 2 didnt gave enough space for lower buds that are almost completely covered by the heavy folliage! Have a vegging BC i've topped for 4 and will let grow into a bush.

I'm trying to compare Subs/Uncle ben topping method VS mainlinning at the moment. Once my pheno will be selected i'll run more scientificaly sound tests.

Strain to be tested with mailinning soon: LA confidential (got topped one's will compare the choosen pheno),La Woman, Chocolope, Silver Bubble, Chocolate rain, Extrema, Chucky's Bride.

Great idea Yankee!

Currently at day 45 of flower in my first mainline attempt. 250w HPS, Hempy bucket style in Folgers coffee cans.

Delicious Seeds Black Russian - Very easy mainline training through veg. Responded to topping and bonding very well, displaying vigorous growth and quick recovery. Topped and bonded for 8 heads. She stretched alot during flower and showed slow bud development through her first 4 weeks. Starting to come on now and bulk up some. Good mainline candidate, needs cropping or other training to control stretch.

World of Seeds Northern Lights x Skunk - Tough training during veg. Limbs are fragile, too much tension and she'll split like a Russian gymnast. Topped and bonded her for 4 heads, split one side right down the middle and had to do some major repairs before I flipped to flower. In flower she has been ideal, moderate stretch, great internodal spacing, and incredible bulking. All 4 heads are fairly uniform, and she has a nice open structure in the middle. With careful training in veg, a good mainline candidate.

World of Seeds Mazar x Great White Shark - My favorite of the 3 so far. Totally problem free during veg. Was going to train her for 8 like the B. Russian, but she had triploid nodes on both sides so I only topped her twice and bonded her for 6 heads. Very minimal stretch and great node spacing, she is not as bulky as the NL but her arms are pretty full of dense, frosty nugs. She has a great open structure allowing good light penetration, even with my 250w. She had near 40% less stretch than the other 2 so she may need some raising up to keep her even with the rest of the canopy. Overall a great mainline subject, and just a great overall strain for growing.

Do you think when you mainline for four heads you get as much yield as you would with 8 but simply larger nugs. I feel mainlining for 4 would be the best option for me, it would be a faster veg time, and not take up as much space in terms of width.

You answered much of your question yourself there mate. It comes down to a trade off between extra veg time and increased yield. As you go from 1 to 2 to 4 to 8 etc., the increase in yield will get progressively less IMO.

So its fine to go 4 heads, thanks a lot buddy clears a lot up, should also save weeks on veg. time.

So i am at about 4 -5 weeks of flowering with three plants. 1 Critical Jack, 2 superbomb. I also had a Og#18 going but I chopped about 2.5 weeks ago, because I really have a small space, and am trying to get mother plants (And the OG18 was clawing pretty bad).

I am in the process of mainlining a BS in veg right now. The next proper strain I will try mailing is Papaya from Nirvana seeds.

I have Super Silver Haze from Crop King seeds, but I don't plan on growing these for awhile yet. When I do I'll try ML.

I mainlined this Shark Shock, I've only done this a few times, I can't remember what else or have anymore pics though.IMG_20140719_154526.jpg 20140711_162351.jpg 20140713_165856.jpg Is this the mainlining technique you're speaking of?

I've mainlined a lot of strains. I never once got the same results as nugs. I'm over that method. I get best yields with a combo of lst, supercropping and multiple toppings. Some strains do best letting it do its own thing.

The Mazar x GWS was triploid ( 3 branch nodes) on each arm. All 6 heads were each triploid as
well and could have went to 18 heads with another topping.

I agree and seem to get my best results with a scrog setup.

I'm about to start 3 plants in my fridge.
2 Amnesia Haze and 1 Jack Herer.
I want to mainline one of them and scrog the other two.
Which strain would be better to mainline?

I read that only indicas respond well that main lining but only because they can grow a little uneven when mainlining but nothing a little bending cant fix! Hope that answered your question good luck bro. I mainlined a white widow before with no problem

Did you get the typical 12"-18" long colas like in all the mainlining threads?
Did you go 8 or 16 colas?
