What RH% do I burp jars?

Hey guys, I know this is probably a novice question, but I've read into a few different threads and from what I can find, it seems like if my humidity is above 70 I need to open my jars and air it out. I've just not been able to find anything pertaining specifically to what percent to open your jar at. Any input would be appreciated as I'm starting to get close to a stable 70.

I'd shoot for 60% RH but that's just my preference.

Ya... of course. My Boveda 62s get heRe today. But I'm wondering when to open the jar? Anything past 70% or should i let it get to 70-80 over a 12-24 hr period then burp?

First, there are a couple pinned threads here that I think touch on it. My take. If you are above 70, you are not burping but dumping and spreading and giving them some full air time. 1/2hr to an hour. Once below I start opening the jars for about 1/2 hour each day until I get to about 62. At which point I burp (open, lighly rustle, close) daily for some time. Week or too. Just smoked a joint of stuff harvested in January and its still wonderfull.

Edit: ambient RH of course varies the length of process as well as how long jars are left open.

Any experience with Boveda humidity packs?

Btw I live in the 4 corners area of the usa. 10-35/45%.

Used once. Nice but not necessary. Same deal as above except I added the packs when I hit 64.

I used the Boveda packs last year..to me I think it takes away the terps ..was first and last year using them....now I just use 5 gallon buckets with gamma lids..open twice a day..works great...I keep a humidity meter in each bucket and check daily...it stays between 65% and 69% when closed...best cure method I have done...last year opening 58 jars was a pain...now just open 10 buckets a day...

I hang and dry in my basement. I use a dehumidifier when needed depending on the season to dry. If they go in the jars fairly dry it won't spike above 70%. Like @bravedave I dump my half gallon jars if above 70%. I like around 68% and then in a month or so it should be smooth if not jarred to early. I use an anolog miniature hygrometer in the bottom facing down so I can reach it. I have 1 in each of my 6 half gal jars. It's been a good year.

Buckets. I use half gal jars. Damn I couldn't smoke that much.

Ya I have those analog ones too from petco. Mine are seeming to just stay at 70%. My RH where I live though is about 20-30. Even when I've left them out for an hour or two, they still go back to exactly 70. Even after I put 2 Boveda 62's in with em.

I had been spiking to 70% for about the last week burping 2 or 3 sometimes even 4 times a day. But today I took them out for an hour and put them in these cardboard like Carton. One on top of the other to keep it dark. And now things are looking a lot better. Especially since the Boveda packs weren't seeming to do anything before. But that's been sealed for two hours now we're holding at around 65% or so so that's good news I only have to burp once a day or so now.

In the future.

Over 70% = buds outside the jar for 4-24 hours, depending on the TEMPERATURE.
65%-69% buds outside of jar for 1-4 hours depending on the TEMP.
61%-64% burp daily 5 minutes to 1 hour depending on the TEMP.

Burp means open the jar, leave the buds inside. If you're curing during the summer or early fall and it's 85 degrees and your hygrometer reads 70%, leave the buds outside the jar for 4 hours. If it's 40 degrees and raining, and the hygrometer reads 70%, leave the buds outside the jar for 24 hours. Use similar proportions for the 65-69% & the 61-64%, again depending on TEMPERATURE.

The Bovedas are pretty convenient, but try to get your RH down to 62% BEFORE you use them. (They take the fun out of curing). Should take you 3-4 weeks.

You want curing to be a very slow process.

I've had them in there for 36 hours and I still haven't had a solid 62. I just like knowing that if they're in there, it's not going to hurt. They do not work like I thought they would

I honestly think I might leave a few packs out to dry out. They seem to gelly to even absorb anything.

If your RH falls below 52% the curing process stops , and can't be re activated , as I understand. The longer the cure the better the flavor . Depending on the strain, RH of 68% and higher can produce mold, I keep all Meds (curing ) , between 62to 65 % and burp every couple of days. Mine are currently running at 52% and in vaccum sealed Masons in dark cool area
