Depends almost totally on where you live and when the rains begin. Also, a greenhouse can extend any outdoor crop. In short, the answer is any strain will grow outdoors. The West Coast recieves more hours of sun than in the east. Many many variables to consider. The Master Gardener's Medical Cannabis Secrets book by Bodhi Moon is a great book to read with a focus on outdoor growing. I learned much reading that one. Good luck. Peace.

I agree with all this but the part in bold.

It may SEEM more sunny in California, but I assure you, that what matters with respect to hours per day of sunlight is the LATITUDE.

At 37 degrees N, San Jose CA is the same latitude as Newport News VA, and both will see the same amount of daylight per day.

Humboldt CA (where they do a lot of the outdoor growing) is at 40 deg N, the same as New York City, (Madrid Spain, and Naples Italy), and ditto for the daylight hours.

At only 27 deg N, Miami Florida is not only more Southerly than the entire State of CA, it also will receive more hours of light per day in the winter.

I think the more important difference here is that even at the same latitude, the Pacific/West Coast is typically warmer than the Atlantic/East Coast. So even with the same hours of daylight, the growing season can be extended a bit on the West coast because frost comes later.

To answer the original question, any strain "can" be grown outside; just that some are more pest, mold, and temperature sensitive than others. You have to make sure that whichever stain you pick is done before the winter frost comes in, and (with some strains) before fall cold and humidity promote bud rot. One easy way to do this is to pick outdoor strains already acclimated to your area, if possible.

For what its worth, most of the "kush" strains will have similar flowering time, and will finish at roughly the same time of year outdoors.

best outdoor plant i grow thus far is either between Chernobyl and Armageddon, fast growth, strong limbs, takes stress well, good yield, resistant to mold & mildew. flower betwen 8-9 weeks. one smells and tastes like lime slurpee, the other smells and tastes like lime liquor.
