Depends on your tap water. You need to know the TDS (ppm). If it's too high (I'd say over 250ppm) you should use filtered (reverse osmosis) water and supplement with calmag. If the TDS is low enough, the next issue is whether your city uses choramine or chlorine. If the later, you'd need to aerate the water for a couple days.

You'll need to adjust the ph of the water after adding nutrients/supplements.

Assuming your tap water is <200ppm and your city doesn't use chloramine (which won't aerate out like chlorine), I'd recommend Gen. Hydroponics Flora Series (3 part). It's great for starter grows because it's ph buffered and will help hold the soil ph steady. After finishing some grows you could look at other nutes, like GH Flora Nova (organic'ish with buffering like Flora 3-part), or ultra inexpensive Grow More Sea Grow (which is also organic'ish, but lacks buffers, which makes ph a bigger job).

To me, GH Flora will help you get some finished grows, ruling out some other variables. From there you can goof around, knowing you can always get back to where you were.

Don't use tap water man. Go to the store and buy distilled water it's like 90 cents.

Ionic hard water formula replaces some of its calcium nitrate with nitric acid. You could use a nitric acid based pH down, or you could use more potassium nitrate, and then less calcium nitrate, less monopotassium phosphate, and use phosphoric acid to make up for the phosphates lost.

Sorry if that sounds a bit confusing.

Unless your trying to play biochemist just get a fertilizer designed for tap water, but honestly is it out of the question to buy a few gallons of distilled water a week? How many plants? How big of containers?

My plants seem to love love love rain water. It's been raining so much I don't have to even worry about it. I'm growing white widow strain outdoors. The 13th will be 8 weeks in. And my plants are just about as tall as me and I'm 6 foot even. I started out with blood and bone meal worm castings in the soil. I use miracle grow once a week. And my plants couldn't be better. Don't know if that helps any. But this is my first grow and I can't believe how well my plants are doing

Holding yourself back buddy. I promise you that you would see a difference if you invested in RO
Iv used both distilled and ro in the past, last year I just went straight tap and have noticed no difference other than not using as much calcium nitrate and magnessium sulfate now

think people now a days just leave there water out if it has high levels.
Your just loosing the benefits of micro life when you use tap water, and relying completely on force feeding which causes plant stress.

Leaving your water out does not remove choramine which is now used in almost every water treatment center and has the same micro life killing properties as chlorine.
