What light should i use in a 1.7x0.5x0.8m stand alone cupboard?

Currently using cfls but wanting to upgrade to a hps in there...

Just curious... do the hps bulbs give off that much more heat than a cfl would... and i know ballasts are light specific ie a 250w bulb has to be matched with the right ballast... im just wondering how much it will increase the heat in the cupboard - ideally looking for an air cooled hood and a digital ballast to match it... AND since i know i cant upgrade the bulb once i have chosen my desired ballast im wondering whats the best wattage of hps to put in there

For that size of space I would use a 250hps. It will produce more heat but it is manageable.

Yeah... that what i was thinking... i just converted my cupboards as im on a budget and cant afford grow tents really... i have a 10cm passive vent at the bottom and a carbon filter working at the top and with the fan inside there isnt really much room for more than two plants at a time... its a small setup but it works fine for me just now - i dont really know how i would air cool it unless i made some more holes and attached another fan to vent the heat off the hps... i suppose a 250w hps would flower 2 plants nicely at a time?

any idea what kind of yield i could expect off an hps... maybe an oz per plant?

I have a cabinet just a bit bigger. It has a 250 hps. they do make some heat so ventilation is important. I use 1 gal. grow bags. I have had up to 6 plants in flower. only grew then about .8m tall. I got about an oz. per plant.

i would say a 250 hps as well.

I second Mustang, you will definately need vents (intake and exhaust).

Best thing is to use PC fans, perhaps put 2 for exhaust at the top and one at the bottom for intake. They are really easy to wire up to normal 12v ac adapters - like mobile phone chargers.

also i think you should look into a duel ballast then in time you can get a metal halide bulb as well and swap them over when goin from veg to flower.
just an idea, i use HPS for flower and veg and its fine but im still on my first grow and i wish i had bought one of them ballasts myself just for the benefits of metal halide for vegging.

Ive got a passive intake at the bottom and im using a carbon filter to filter out air at the top...

How long did you veg to get your plants to 0.8cm, im using cfls just now and with two months veg they are reaching about 0.6-.07m they are indicas though so i know they dont grow as tall.
