What I don't get is people who buy a dog to protect there grow. I can understand getting a dog to make noise but if a human being wants something a dog is protecting they will get it. I didn't have a pet for a long time and once I started growing outside I wanted a watchdog and was looking at Pit bulls, Rottweilers and Dobermans. Then I got to thinking what if someone where to find my grow, see the dog and come back with something to stop the dog. That cant be good for the dog, may kill him.

Thats when I decided no, I don't want to walk out in the yard one day and find a dead dog and my plants gone.
I couldn't do that to an animal it would just tear me up so I got a golden retriever. Hes my fertilizer/noise maker and if someone did show up he would grab a toy and wanna play with them. Sure I have taken other security precautions including CCTV. But I don't think any crop is worth losing my best friend.

I agree with you to a point cruzer. For someone who has never had dog, or never really liked them to go out and buy one for the sole reason of guarding something is just dumb. However to have a dog, properly trained, able to defend his family and property I see nothing wrong with that. A dog is a member of the family and his role is companion and guardianship. As a member of the family I do anything for (several vet bills in the thousands of dollars of the many years I have had pets) All I expect out of him is to love us and protect us.

Same here, im not a fan.
I volunteer at the humane society feeding dogs, walking them, and playing with them so I see alot of different breeds. I love the way a rottweiler looks with unclipped ears and a full tail, so much more playful looking.

a dog has many purposes, companionship and the ability to guard are only 2.. i like cropped ears on dogs..no ear infections..dogs with long tails knock shit off coffee tables and hit you in the nuts, long floppy ears are dark and moist and tend to have ear infections for many breeds, doberman ,rotts and pits are not good guard dogs..apbt's were bred to fight other dogs..so if an animal tries to steal your crop they work great.dobes and rotts are more all show little go(there are few exceptions) and ofcourse a human can shoot a dog with a gun and kill said dog..but just like all burglers..if someone is going to break into your home and hears/sees a large dog..they move onto your neighbors house that does not have a dog.

i really like the dogo's but i am not a hunter..if i was, i would have a pack of dogo's..the interesting thing about the dogo is that it was bred to be the ultimate hunting dog..it has like 13 different breeds of dogs in its lineage.it was bred to be the ultimate pack hunter. if ya google dogoman you should find an argentine man who hunts wild boars with them and posts some amazing pictures.

If that is the case then why are they most commonly sold personal protection dogs? Do a search of trainers who do level three executive protection dogs. The ones that sell anywhere from five to fifty thousand bucks are mostly Dobies, rotts, and german shepards. Would seem kinda dumb if they were not "good" guard dogs

yeah i have 2 friends who are trainers both pp and schutzhund titling , like i said in my post THERE ARE FEW EXCEPTIONS, the bloodlines have been really watered down with people breeding garbage to garbage to sell puppies for money. if you know anything about dogs/training you know it is repetition until the dog is almost robotic in what the dog is being trained for.
you could train a cocker spaniel for 2 years and title him schutzund III , but what good would it be...if you send a cocker spaniel or a malinois on me ,i will hurt that dog.. 60 lb not big /strong enough to take down a strong 200 lb man..trust me i have seen it and done it..i have taken many bites in a suit and sleeve against many breeds of dog. if the police used say a bull mastiff or cane corso or a boerboel or even a presa canario to send on a suspect hiding..the suspect would get fucked up badly and there would be many lawsuits..so police use malinois and gsd. also a malinois is all drive it never gets tired , they pace in their carrier/cage until it is time to work. people sell schwag but that does not mean it is the best option.
