I can vouch for Honda 600's. Plenty of bike to learn on. Get a used sport bike if you can, you lose your ass in depreciation and interest the first couple years.

If you can't afford an awesome bike new, don't settle for a less awesome bike. Used sounds like the smartest option for you. 04 05 06 models will still tear it up

GSXR OR NOTHING

PERIOD

Look for some older ninja 900s, or older hondas. Don't get a 600... everyone says to learn, on one smaller, but how about this...., just don't be an idiot on the bigger one?

I bought a 954 cbr for a first bike, my friend bought a ninja 900 for a first bike, and we have both been riding for over 2 years and just took it easy for the first few months.

I guess if you have never ridden anything like a motorcycle before then maybe its a good choice, but....you're going to upgrade sooner or later.

Edit: If you look at it closely every bike is pretty close to being the same (around the same class anyway) ... I mean, some bikes are like .1 second faster in the 1/4 mile... thats not really anything. I would get something you feel comfortable on.

My vote is to buy one a couple years old then you don't lose all the money on depreciation and if you look around you can find some guy who bought one and never rode it except on perfect days and had it in his garage all the time.

you want something cheaper I recommend anything in the 05 and up and you can get nice r6's for like 5 to 8 g's. I mean lets be realistic you seem to know the prices of brand new bikes so, thats said, then you should know there is no sport bike under 600cc's for under 10G's. only thing I can recommend to you is the 599 by honda. or a scooter, trust me man not to knock you but you should know this. I used to work for honda dealership both in auto and bike departments. ya things depreciate look at cars, but then you have a passion thats a different story, then it doesn't matter. if you want something that does not depreciate I suggest real estate. BUT, if you wanna have a bit of fun and not be a ghostrider wannabe and not worry about depreciation get a bike or car. these things are toys, thats all it is. why don't you put 5G's down on a honda or your yamaha and pay 100-200 bucks a month if you don't want a bike older than say 2 yrs? That way you could still sell it the same year it was made and go on and on like that? people do it to cars, they buy a brand new car drive the shit out of it for about 80 to 100,000kms or miles whatever, you get my point and they go back to the dealership and trade it in for the latest model that came out. oh I found a pic of the 599 looks nuthing like a cbr or r6 but try it out, also an excellent introduction bike for beginners and sports enthusiasts, lots of aftermarket stuff or you just don't have enough money for the real thing. And believe me people actually tell me that when I ask them why don't you just get this and be done with it all?, or they don't want something too flashy but got kick at the same time. the turning radius is better on the 599 than the cbr600 also. and really your only 1cc off, that wouldn't even tickle your asshole dude, you won't even notice it,LOL. unless you were a 49cc scooter, then ya you can somewhat feel it. the acceleration at least... its like a cunt hair though, no offence to women. But here is the 599. I mean like listen to the guy above me too where he says most of these guys keep it in there garage and ride on perfect days, there tons like that.

You can pick up a used one of those FZ6 for half the price will very few miles on em. Hell you can even get the bigger model of the same bike for almost half. Bikes are fun almost no matter what you get, I 'm a cheap bastard so it's more fun for me when I'm not paying for it later.
