What is the difference

Howdy LED gurus.

Been checking out the LED scene a bit here lately and i've got a simple question...well for you guys at least.

So we have Cree...Vero...Citizen....Orsam.These seem to be the most talked about in the led scene, along with the QB.

Well what is the difference between these products? If there is any at all.

Thanks for any input.

So is that about it?

One Does not out perform the other?
Some are better at lower current some perform better at higher current. Plus a big price difference on some of these. Also all of them besides Osram are talked about when referencing COBs, Osram makes the better quality red LEDs. Hope that helps.

hi nugs,
are u looking into buying a new led light:confused:

Well my first led yes.

Leaning more towards the DIY though.Have ignored the led scene pretty much .......then i found Growmau5 youtube vids.I've said for the last 6-7 years i'd never do another flat lander grow again but damn if his garden doesn't have me about to relapse!

A good guess is you're a vert dude too.....do you rock leds with vert?

Fusing the 2 together is the challenge i'm looking at.

ttystikk's shit is...well....the shit.

hell yea bro, vert is great way to grow, simple & effecient but they all have their fair share of challenges along the way.

growmau5 is the led guru god & tty the vert king.

heres some more research for you, its Capts QB vert thread = https://www.rollitup.org/t/quantum-boards-grow.927065/page-20#post-13633569

Cobs gather diodes into a tight group creating heat issues all cobs various cobs are priced various levels Samsung lm561c s6 bin is the hottest item because they spread the diodes out over s larger area creating s more even intensity map.

Wow....up to 201lm/W on those bad boys.
If you can drive them at 150-160 mA you hit the sweet spot. Most folks drive them hard, because that is their nature.

I am discussing with a manufacturer in China to build for me a two channel board, one channel 3500k and another channel 5000k, each with 192 diodes for a total of 384 diodes on a 4x12 pcb. Each channel can be driven separate or with a common driver and the diodes are designed to be driven at about 160mA the sweet spot. . I have gotten a quote for $800 to build 13 boards only, I only want maybe four boards. I would love to CO-OP a build with a group for the remaining nine boards At that price of about $60 plus S&H per board that is killer. I have to find a CO-OP group willing and dependable to do a deal using 5000k 80cri lm561c s6 bin and 3500k 90cri s6 bin.

Those number are impressive for sure but im leaning towards NOT driving things to their peak.

The idea of spreading out more light at less power per light sounds good for me.

Question on penetration{no dick jokes}....:eyesmoke:

If i have a light that is say a 600 watt from the wall unit with 9 cobs and one with 12 cobs with the 12 cob unit obviously getting less power per cob which one will give better penetration into my garden?

Would this also depend on my choice of cobs....cree...citizen..yadda yadda yadda?

Common sense is telling me the 9 cob unit would penetrate more since there would be more power going into each cob vs a little less power going into 12 cobs.

The softer or lower amps drawn for cobs allows less heat more photons best for plants growth. Plants absorb photons when lights out plants grow from gathered energy like a solar panel. That is where the idea originated.

I vote for the 12 cob situation, more points of light.
Others may well differ in opinion.
