Hello fellow growers,
I currently have 8 different seed strains of autoflowering plants and am looking for the best soil mix to put them in. I will be starting the seeds in jiffy pellets under a 200w dual spectrum CFL. Once the seedlings are strong enough I will move them under a 600w HPS. My local hydro store sells a number of different soils and I have bio bloom for nutes and voodoo juice to help the roots.
Here are the list of soil types I can get:
All mix
Bat mix
Bio terra Plus
Bio bizz light
Canna terra Pro+
Gold label special mix
Gold label special mix light
Plagron grow mix
Plagron Light mix
Royalty mix
Terra professional

So guys what does everbody think and if anyone has any tips or hints then please let me know.

Cheers

By the way here are the strains I have:
Delahaze
La Diva
Diesel Ryder
AK47
Afghan Kush
White Dwarf
Auto Assasin
Autobluberry

well i would definitely chose the lightest most airy mix of soil. as for the strains, why grow all of them same time? IMO do 1 or 2 max at one time. and dont make too many seeds, they will overgrow the 600w even if autos. 8 strains so how many seeds of each you ntend on growin? they will grow and stretch differently and will need different nutes it will add to complication IMO

What do you mean by "overgrow the 600w" zem. I only have 1 of each seed with the exception of white dwarf. I bought my seeds through pick and mix seeds meaning I could get 1 of each. My idea being whichever strain I like I can then get a normal seed grow a mother and clone.

you cannot clone autos. i meant that they can grow too big under one 600, but you say you only got 8 seeds i think they can be grown

no i thought you got like 5 or of each, i think 8 plants can be grown under 600. are they feminised?

I currently have several strains of autos in various stages of growth....under 400w hps...so I would think you can grow several at a tiem under a 600w....I have found my greatest success with autos has been with a nuteless soil (humboldt), then lightly nuting after several leaf stages....I also stagger and have autos awaiting theri turn in my tent.....
After 3 years of growing autos, my favs are lowryder and lowlife strains....and am beginning to like sweet seeds and ghs auto strains.....here's a pic of a bud on my lowlife auto I nicnamed "snowball"....LL12-21.jpgIt's from a 1st gen seed I produced from a lowlife mixed .....

Zem, Yes they are all feminised but my grow space is under a metre squared. I got a bit carried away when I bought my 600w hps and the heat was a real issue in the summer. However now we are in the colder months the 600w hps keeps the grow room at a very reasonable temperature! I recently had a LR2, 2 northern lights and 7 clones but due to unforseen circumstances I couldn't look after them and they all died (gutted!!!). The LR2 grew to about 3 feet and was flowering nicley but had very few leaves. The 2 auto northern lights were very bushy but had nit started flowering. The intention was to flower the clones after the autos as they were vegging under the 18 hour light cycle. I might try that again as I have some feminised seeds (afghani kush, super silver cheese) so I might veg them with a few autos then flower the feminised afterwards. They should be a fairly reasonable size after 8 - 10 weeks. What do you think?

Cflo92, what was the dry weight, what was it grown under and how long did it take. Did you use any nutes? Also what soil did you use?

still drying, i did use nutes and the soil i used was an organic soil that a farmer i know mixed up for me, but i used a 400 watt hps, im estimating around 30-40 grams

edit: forgot it took what the description said, it was roughly 75-80 days

Nice one cheers! Went to my grow shop yesterday and decided on plagron light mix but also picked up a bag of royalty mix. I decided to start with the light mix then repot into a mix of light and royalty to get some nutrients into the soil. Fingers crossed this will be ok!

Good choice to start your seedlings on something light....I clipped the bud in the pic...is 3/4 oz wet....will be bout a 1/4 dry....love the dank....good luck on your auto grow.

The lights not air cooled but at this time of year its real cold where it is so that shouldn't be a problem. The exhaust is a simple bathroom extractor at the top of the room and works really well. I also have a 15" fan in there which circulates the air well. I will hopefully be starting in the next couple of weeks so I will post some pics when the babies start growing! If you type in my user name there are some threads with photos of my room and my first grow. Cheers Zem

cold temps are worst in sprouting. seeds dont sprout well and seedlings get stunted, could take many weeks to grow 2", so try and keep them warm
