I marvel at those who hold that if only mankind were different, then everything would be better Moses. The point has always been how to get government to work while men are working it. Not impossible, just harder. Again, no one who thinks government can't work should be in government - that would pretty much rid us of all Tea Party folk.

That's amazing. What kind of government, a huge beaurocracy that controls far too many things it has no business being involved in with a large number of czars who aren't accountable to anyone for anything? I'm not sure what you mean. Or a governmet that adheres to things like the rule of law and has one set of rules that apply to all, especially those in power who would be held accountable for their actions. Because this gang of lying, thieving scumbags who blame each other while robbing us to our graves really stinks.

big difference between thinking it's not working properly and thinking it can't work.

Except for the noisy crazies in the Tea Party the message I hear is how immoral it is to borrow from our children and grandchildren because of our own incompetence and wants. It's like instead of a college fund FOR them, we are borrowing FROM them. That's not right.

That "we are borrowing from our children" thing is bullshit. All of us borrow from our children. We borrowed from our children in order to support the cold war, the vietnam war (in fact we even sacraficed our children for that one- no problem there though right?). We are borrowing our children's air and water, we are borrowing their energy and perhaps even their longevity but the Tea Party uses the "its for the children" argument to put forth their short sighted, take no prisoner, mindless little ideology.

"starve government until it is small enough to drown in the bathtub" kinda denotes an attitude that it can't work.

HUGE asinine assumption on your part there. Shameful even.

And some of us actually plan for our children's future with bonds, college funds etc.. don't assume an ALL just because you may not care about your own's future.

That war went on for 10 years, it was started based upon a lie and to this day many on the right claim that we should have fought on. Nothing particularly assinine about an assumption that seems to bear out. I heard few on the right claiming that we were morgaging our children's futures and all they did was "laud" the bravery and service of those who died - "who's next"? "why you are brave too".

Do they plan for your children's future by ensuring that maybe they won't have nation wide drought every year? Perhaps they plan their children's future by seeing to it that our infrastructure is not collapsing around them when they need it. Are they "planning for their children's future" by advocating that this country rely on coal to power our cities? No, I never think much of those who fixate on the debt as an infliction upon our children but ignore the fact that debts can be paid off but a denuded world may not be put to rights so easily.
 
If we had taken all of the money given to failed green energy companies, as well as removing the tax breaks from said companies (and ffs OIL too) and instead offered that as a reward to the first who can drive a car coast to coast without having to charge a battery or add gas we'd be waaaaaay ahead.

If you give a university a grant to "find an answer" they will perpetually be seeking that answer, finding it would be too costly. Our logic is goofy when it comes to this stuff.

Good reasoning. The oil companies are probably behind us not having this going good already. I seem to remember a carburator that got high mileage in the 70's they bought up and kept from us, not long after the gas shortage. cough

And the chevy Volt goes a shorter distance on a charge than the electric cars we destroyed in the early 90's. Yet the companies making those batteries are subsidized.
