What Is Marijuana Worth?

I just did a little bit of math for my estimate on what marijuana is worth to our economy. I'm estimating the number of daily users at 3.1 million according to http://www.oas.samhsa.gov/2k4/dailyMJ/dailyMJ.htm. I'm gonna go on the low side and estimate everyone at a gram per day. I'm setting the general price per pound at $1000 which I feel is a fair estimate if you average out bricks weed and the best buds you can get. This doesn't include resale value so I'm sure my estimate is way on the low side but it is still amazing.

3,100,000 daily users (circa 2004)
X 365 days
= 1,131,500,000 grams per year

1,131,500,000
/ 453.5
= 2,495,038.5 lbs.

2,495,038 lbs.
X $1000
=$24,950,385,000

Marijuana in the U.S is wort at least TWENTY-FIVE BILLION DOLLARS a year at the producer level. LOL and people a still terrified about their 3 plants under cfl's. This is also one of the most conservative estimates I think you could ever find.

right - but, it doesn't stop there as far as stimulating the economy if it were legal - we will have tons of businesses based on pot products and themes besides just the weed itself - it will create jobs and let people benefit from it in legitimate ways.. also remember the costs of prohibition go deeper than just a few million arrests to pay for - court fees, prison fees, records to keep, piss tests, huge propaganda campaigns, DEA salaries, wasting high level courts' time, people roaming the woods killing hemp, ... the list goes on - it must add up to trillions of dollars wasted in the end.. not to mention making people hurt..

also - i will just point out again that by killing the hemp plants we are effectively killing all birds and wildlife.. and something like 99% of what the CAMP type groups do is kill the ditchweed which is not a drug and makes birds that eat it live substantially longer.. did you know that cannabis was the most popular animal feed before it was smited out of existence? everyone in the world fed it to all their livestock and they lived longer eating it...

I bet the big corn wants nothing to do with hemp, it would be easier to grow then corn, and since its a grass its safer to feed to cattle. Feeding corn to cattle does nothing but create sick cattle. A person could plant acres of hemp have the cows eat it while they roam. This allows for healthier cows because 1) They would roam free and eat the hemp 2) Cows can actually digest hemp safely, completely unlike corn. 3) You can grow more hemp per sq acre then grass, since it grows much larger, this allows for more feed per animal.

We could fix such a large portion of our budget crises by just legalizing hemp and marijuana. To bad people in Congress are idiots.

Agreed, I would say that 25 billion dollars a year, is actually a gross underestimate. but at that rate even still, marijuana could do more for this econonmy, than it couldn't. Marijuana works, medically. Bottom line. I don't care what anyone says, when my aunt was dying of cancer, i grew for her, she couldn't bring herself to eat, until she started smoking the sweet maryjane, it put her at ease, allowing her to eat and sleep somewhat regularly. There are more than enough lives touched by the medicinal purposes of marijuana, Including my own, having lived with chronic back and knee pain, and anxiety for years, marijuana works. The motion to move medicinal marijuana forward is very important. A lot of people would be in pain If a prohibition went down.

Call your senator, voice your OPINION on the legalization of marijuana!!!!!

The French (I believe) have figured out how to make hemp into "wood" to build houses out of.
You can make paper and a mess of other things out of it.
If your for a green economy you Must be for hemp.
If you want to save forests you Must be for hemp.
No doubt about it.
