What is killing my plants

Hi everyone.

I'm never one for posting on forums but with regret after dumping my plants I need answer's..

I'll start by saying that I only grow autoflowering strains and I've done a fair amount since 2012. I've never had any real problems as I try to keep things simple.

Within this grow I used the same soil as I use in every grow its that light blue bag of westlands multipurpose with added JI. And some perlite. I start my seeds off to soak in a glass followed by the kitchen roll method. And because of the colder temperature outside I use a homemade heat pad made out of led rope light coiled round 500mm sticks and sandwiched between two sheets of ply wood. It seems to work really well.. So once my seeds pop their heads out the dirt it's onto 9w leds. 1 bulb per plant @ 4000k. I usually leave the heat pad on while my seedlings work with the 24 hour light period.. After 2 weeks i transplant and alter the lights to 18/6. Within this grow and my last. I encountered the same problems and I can't figure out wtf is going on. To move on abit. I've been using a grow tent that I picked up on ebay. It's a 120x60x150 I got this tent for £36 Inc p&p. Could this be a potential cause for unhealthy plants... Now onto the plants on this grow and my last.. I did 3 then and 2 now. All 5 plants were showing signs of what I think was heat stress or root rot...

Could the reason for this have been the diy heat pad and or the grow tent... I just don't know... It's been very cold here in Scotland lately..hence why I decided on a bit of heating. I remember when i got the tent.. It had a horrible smell to it. Could it have been the tent.

So now im really fcuked off with myself for ending the life of two autoflowering strains just because of my frustration at seeing yellow/orange/brown blotches on leaf and tip and that sight of leaves drying up and turning crispy.... I mean ffs. The leds weren't desperately close... the heatpad didn't generate that much heat. I fed using water with a pH ro of 6.2 And didn't even administer any nutes..

I'm now under the conclusion that it's the tent that messed things up..

Please could someone help me.. The last two of my grows are going to possibly see me never growing again. I'm sick of running into problems. Is it the DIY heatpad.... could the heating of the rope light release a toxic gas. The same way as I'm thinking did the tent release some sort of fume that fucked my plants. If it was only £36 surely it's a pile of shit. I just can't determine wtf has caused this... It has to be the tent or the rope light.. Because fcuk me. In the past I grew in a cupboard and had no problems.

Sorry for the run of bad times :(
Used (I shouldn't assume that just because you got a deal on eBay it was used...but, if it was...) gear from an unknown source is always suspect.

Did you set it up and clean it? Really well with something to kill anything that may have been lurking in seams and poles?

Did your seeds come from a new source?

I'm not familiar w the soil you use but if it was a fresh mix of what has worked in your past...it's not too likely to be your issue...

Cold temps are more likely to see them just not even grow, and rope lights for indoor use are not likely to emit some toxic something that would hurt your plants.

How old were they when you tossed them?
Do you happen to have taken any pix?
Maybe go back to the closet for a round to boost your confidence a bit :D
