what is considered a dog attack?

First of all the guy who reads the gas meter came over last night to read the meter and as usuall my dog was barking, 10 mins later im walking my dog when we come across the gas meter man.
My dog then pulled towards him and her clip on the lead snapped so she ran towards him barking she didn't get within 1.5 mtrs to him and just barking,
He then proceeded to yell at me saying he was going to report my dog to the council for being dangerous :(
My dog is a bull mastiff and has never atacked anyone in her life.

I can't believe someone can be so cruel to take our dog away from us, she is our life

The majority of mastiff's are good natured. Dog's are legally allowed to bark at strangers in your yard. If it didn't snap at him I wouldn't worry too much. Just make sure to have him properly restrained the next time he comes over. Good Luck!

Your dog didnt bite him so you should be fine. Maybe a fine for being off the leash but nothing more. I am a dog lover and owner , but for future ref imo any and all agressive by nature & over 75lbs dogs should be on a chain link leash , nothing else.... But thats just my opinion....

Good Luck Hope Everything Works Out....

All bark, no bite, = coming home with you. He broke his leash, shit happens. Can;t blame th guy for being scared, though. Those dogs are huuuge! I love them.

Sounds like your dog was in his yard. Leash laws don't apply on your own property. Dogs are innocent just like children. It takes man to corrupt them most times.

If the incident was in your yard, and the gas guy wasn't even touched, your dog did NOTHING wrong.
Especially if the guy didn't even spray your dog, he was not that scared.
Did he have a wet spot on the front of his pants when he left?

He could report your dog to Animal Control. Anyone can. It is just a report. Animal Control might investigate. If they find violations, like your animal is in poor health and not cared for, in violation of local leash/containment or license laws - you could get in trouble.

In other words, if you are a responsible pet owner, you have nothing to worry about. If you want to confirm any of that or have more questions, call your local Animal Control. Your best bet is to call them if you have any questions and you will get specific answers for the laws in your community. It has been my experience that AC is generally a helpful bunch if you're a compliant pet lover.

If you run up and kick it, or throw stuff at it, I'd say that's a dog attack.

Poor puppy that meter reader trespassing on it's turf, and then scaring it with a clip board! Nothing to worry about, as said very succinctly by cheech.

You have a Big Assed Dog that does that to me I'd piss myself too, control your fucking dog and if you want the bad ass dog get equipment thats made to handle it and not fall apart.

I think the guy was shit scared it did happen a block away from home but my dog remembered the guy who she obviously saw as a threat, like all mastiff breads they instinctively guard and protect there pack,
God love her, everyone that meets her falls in love with her she truly is a special girl.

Im glad to read that we should be in the clear, my missus said we would put her down before she gets taken away from us

I had one of those big block headed guys jump my fence and run up on me.
I had him on the ground in 5 secs. It's an ancent move I learned from my Dad a Dog whisperer.
I scratched him behind his ear and he fell right down!!!

That's too bad. Most mail carriers are dog friendly. I feel for ya" that's probably a scar your dog won't ever get over. Though, you could train him out of it. Providing he's not too old.

Can't say I blame him. I have an uncle who was a mailman in a fairly large city and, only maced one dog in 30 years. A poodle that cornered him on the porch.
