Its a non-photoperiod plant. It will flower at any light cycle. Imo, nothing good comes from this except saving electricity and even then, yields are low.

Not only will flower automatically without changing light schedule, also will have a short period of life, from seed to harvest from 50 to even with new super autos going 120 days, less yields, less quality,also can't be cloned. But it's good for beginners to get familiar with growing. GL
They're useful if you can plant outdoors. A photosensitive plant won't flower until the season's change. You can get an early harvest with an auto.
They're also useful for a new grower who may not want to invest in a tent, fan, etc. just to find out if they can grow. You can grow an auto on the kitchen table. I think it also reduces some stress for a new grower. They don't have to worry about "flipping" to 12/12. That seems like a small thing, but it seems less stressful growing something that will "do it's own thing;" less responsibility for the outcome.
One downside in that regard is that autos don't recover from stress which is more likely to occur with a new grower. But, that's also a positive. Sometimes it's better to call it quits and start over. A photosensitive makes it harder to do that because of the psychological "investment" factor. An auto just runs out of gas on its own. (Sure, someone who nurses a photosensitive along will learn more things. But, it's less stressful to let the plant "time out" and start a new one with what you've learned.).
Like everything, it's a matter of perspective. The only thing I believe is a bad idea is growing them indoors after developing some skills. They use 50% more light. You don't have to run them 6/18. They could be run at 12/12. But, then you take a yield hit. (I think it's the extra light which makes up for the negative contribution of ruderalis).

Comes in handy for an easy quick grow if you need yield which is what I am doing now with it - need a yield for oil while working on my other crops

Didn't you get some clones from and start a thread a few months ago? I'm pretty sure that was the diagnosis anyways because they were flowering under veg times.
This right here. You can sog those things in a bathtub in a spare bathroom with no problems and not have to worry about light leaks in flower. They make for a decent first timer setup if someone only has enough starting cash for a HPS, some beans and dirt.
