What Happens When You Get Board and Try to Clone an Auto ?

This is an auto flower experiment.
1 Caramelicious Feminized Auto. Only one may be entertaining. More than one would be a piss poor waste of good seed that don't come cheap these days.

The Goal is to show some results without the big brother type lecture on why I say you can’t grow that.

Not looking for a pissing match over autos.

I’m sure the cash croppers will send out plenty of hate.

It’s just a little ditty aimed at the poor boy who is stuck in a 1-plant box, or the girl in the corner who doesn’t ask questions because of all the sarcasm that’s spread so freely here.

I know nothing about autos. I’ve never grown or even seen an auto plant before.

I fully understand the common logic that a clone will finish the same time as the parent. I’ve visited a number of sites that all put autos down. They all seem to repeat the same sentiments. Hundreds of articles on what not to do and what will happen but no pictures.

I’m not real big on posting a lot of pictures but I will put up a few so people can see my results.

The conditions for growing this little experiment are all bad; no they’re worse than bad.

The box is a real joke. Made from about ¾s of a sheet of 1/8” hardboard. Since it is basically paper, I can only hope humidity does not destroy it before the plant finishes.

The box is 16 inches X 14 inches and 4 foot tall.

The lighting is horrible. Two cut up led strip lights and two 13w cfl are all it gets for light until its last 2 weeks when it will get 150w hps. The wiring is indescribable, a short circuit in waiting. I know how poor this is but it’s an experiment in everything people are told not to do. So, for about 6 weeks it gets only 80 watts of dirt-poor lighting. Then a couple weeks of HPS. It may produce enough for a couple of half ass joints.???

Since this is the poor boy way we have no fan and heat could destroy the plants.

.

The box is not light tight.

Mom is in a 2 gallon fabric pot growing in coco. Mom is now 4 weeks old.
DSCF3241.JPG

The first clone taken, when mom was 2 weeks old is in a 1gallon plastic pot of Pro Mix potting soil. It is not showing any flower yet.
DSCF3249.JPG

A second clone from Mom taken yesterday from new under growth that has no flower is now waiting for roots to develop. Clone from a 4-week-old flowering auto, if it roots, according to the popular voices, will be a sad little munchkin with a 4-week life span that produces nothing.
DSCF3242.JPG

Everything gets rainwater. There are no ph checks. Since Mom is in coco she must have food but even that is done cheap. I am using the Jungle Juice trio 1ml per liter of water. I don’t know or care how much it needs or wants but it is getting this; day 1 water – day 2 nothing – day 3 food – day 4 nothing and the cycle just repeats. There will be no cal-mag added just what little is in the food. The clones growing in dirt will get the same food and water.

Wednesday night I should be back to check for roots on the new clone.

There's nothing special about cloning Photo vs Auto. The only difference is Veg time. Autos are limited Veg time, Photos are unlimited Veg time, that's it. Cheers

Hey you got me pulling up a chair...

Not looking for an auto pissing match...lol...betcha might find one b4 too long anyway....no matter WHAT forum site, forum or topic, someone will NOT be able to help them selves, and they prob won't even read OP or any other P b4 whipping his thing out....probably won't even stroll over to a urinal first, either...

Sounds like your experiment is doomed from the start ....
You stated you dont know or " care " what the plant needs .... Which pretty much makes this a waste of time. No pissing implied.
Light leaks
Insufficient lighting
Feeding
Air flow

Even if you manage to crawl the plant to harvest ... What is the purpose ?
Autos are HARDWIRED to move from seedling to preflower WITHIN 30days or so.
Taking a cutting will not start plant over , it will continue on same timeline , if it roots at all.
Autos are Plug and Play ... Once you pop them you cant stop them. PLUS it will more than likely stress the main plant or even stunt it. ( autos dont have time to heal or like stress ). Light leaks bring hermies , so that is another issue too.

Hopefully your questions will answered ... Good luck

Several people filled with curiosity.
Waste of time? That depends upon the point of view. What the plant is expected to produce is worthless. Hopefully pictures provide a better explanation to a few people.

The point is I've heard the negative views, I cannot say they are wrong. Problem is there's plenty of pictures of the good stuff. Everyone says what happens but no one seems to be able to show people what the down side is. I see and hear the same questions and answers year after year.

Most of us know you need good lighting, good growing media, and proper food and water. Still I repeatedly get confronted with the same questions. Do I really need that? Are you sure it won't grow? People don't want to believe what they can't see. And I don't really understand the auto very well myself. They grow under conditions that will kill most strains. They have shitty yield and quality. So why do so many people like them?

I checked the newest cutting but no roots. Maybe it will not root? I cut the largest of the 3 leaves off. Less leaf on top sometimes helps. Take another look Friday.

I think you misinterpret, why people say it's a waste of time.

An Auto's life cycle is fixed.

People don't have a problem with the ability to clone an Auto. Cloning is easy. Cloning an Auto is easy. Hell, cloning a male is easy.

The problem with Auto's is just it's ability to have enough time spand left in Veg before the plant wants to Flower. I predict you'll get a lovely flowering clone that's 3in tall.

Who wants to clone a plant that will hermie or not have any bud, because it's so stressed out?

But hey, science is science. I don't think anyone's againt what you're doing. People just don't understand why, that's all.
Good luck, man.

Misinterpretation is definite possibility.
I've spent the past 9 years arguing with 3 doctors about meds. I do not see or feel any benefit from the meds so why do I need them? They say I need the meds to avoid issues I already have. I cannot begin to match their level of education and all I see is mindless paradox.

I'm looking forward to that 3" tall bush. I have this mental image of a fat little bush with a 1 sugar coated nug sitting on top.

I've checked the second cutting and no roots. It may not root but it's still green top and bottom.

The first clone is now 10" out of the dirt. The top 1/2 has that funky 1 sided branching that seems to be common in some clones. The leaves have good color and no flower yet. Almost 3 weeks old.

Mom is nearing 5 weeks and has great looking flowers considering it's lack of food and light.

Finally, roots on second cutting after about 12 days.
DSCF3265.JPG

Really interested in what it turns into.

Mom is nearing 6 weeks and showing what is probably Nitrogen Toxicity, leaves clawing and curling under. Probably too much heat which I suppose should have been expected with a lack of ventilation.
DSCF3268.JPG
Going to leave door cracked open to let more air in.

First clone now 14 inches tall and starting preflower.
Come Sunday mom is 6 weeks and I will try to get another cutting for a clone.

I understand you cannot clone autos in the normal sense. I want to see in real life what happens to an clone taken from an auto.
The inability to keep a mother is a no brain-er.
What does a clone really do? All I can find is that it will finish the same time the mother does and it will be a short little bush that produces little to nothing. There is an infinite number of sources with this same info however, there are no pictures of these odd plants that are so notably worthless. Autos are gaining in popularity. The younger people seem to like them. Supposedly autos are changing ???

Are autos changing or is it just hype to drive the sale of horribly overpriced seed.

I think you should do whatever experiments you want to, so good on you for being curious.

A clone of an auto, possesses the same genetics as the mom. Unless there is a genetic mutation, the clone "thinks" it's the same as the mom, cuz it is. Therefore even if you get it to root, it can't do anything but obey it's genes .

If you feel like messing around trying to make a "semi-auto flower" any tiny flowering auot clones might be useful as pollen recipients, if you're into that plant sex thing.
