What do you consider the first day of flowering?

Okay, so the current plants I'm growing are said to be done flowering in 8 weeks. They have been on 12/12 for 8 weeks are are far from done. However, they didn't physically show signs of flowering until two weeks in.

The question I have for all of you is: Do you consider the first day of flowering when you first switch to 12/12 or do you consider it the day pre-flowers are first visible?

I'm interested.

i consider flowering when the pre flowers show people will argue about the auto flowering plants , ect ..

yeah I think that its a matter of distinguishing two different happenings; a change to flowering light cycle or flowers beginning to appear on the plants.

in your case, as far as you have been on the light cycle for 8 weeks and the plants have been flowering for 6 weeks, (42 days), they probably have at least 2 more weeks (for a 56 day flowering period)

I've learned to judge my flowering times by using both preflowers AND alternating nodes as the start of flowering.

When i do that, I always hit the recommended flowering time by the breeders with an approximate 60/40 Amber/Cloudy.

Only times i haven't seen this work, was when growing conditions are out of wack

but i would logically think its when it starts to show flowers. I jsut never thought logically before.

of course, if there's no flowers it's not flowering.

I would say the first day after 12 hours of darkness. I use clones though so they're already matured and have preflowers.

The day i sex em for me.

i would say when you flip the lights to 12/12 and see hairs forming.. that is the "true" start of flowering.. just my 2 cents though

Nice responses. I would agree that it's when the pre-flowers are first visible while on 12/12. I guess if you veg long enough to where you have pre-flowers before 12/12 then when you switch to 12/12 you would start flowering that day. In my case, I switched to 12/12 after 2 weeks of veg so it took the plant more time to show it's pre-flowers and actually be in the flowering stage. I just thought it was an interesting topic considering its not clear to a lot of newcomers when exactly the 8 or so weeks begins. I think this is where a lot of people's confusion comes from as far as the breeders flowering times. They think the breeder is quoting bogus weeks, where really the grower thinks they are flowering just because they're on 12/12 when they are not.
