Hi peeps,

Home made cloners are very new to me at the mo.

I have a small water pump, 230l/ph and was wondering wether this can be used in some way to make a cloner of some type?:leaf:

I was under the impression that it could blow air when water was not passing through but it doesn't:sad:

Anyway, if anything can be done with this i'd like to know.

I would need two pump for a hydro setup wouldn't i?

Anyway, +reps!!!

U could make a simple Drip Feed System wid just that pump as long as ur resurvoir is below ur plants so the exess water can drain out back into the resoirvor.

I was thinking about somthing like that,

Would there be any advantages over my soil grow thats being hand watered, also, what medium would be best for that drip feed system?

Thanks for the info!:leaf:

Rockwool on it's own? I'd like to use a pot for this too so maybe clay pellets?

Im going to check ur grow now.

Well the advantages of the DFS compared to soil grows is it allows the plants roots too obtain more air. THis in turn increases the average size of the plant and yeild . As far as grow medium goes id go with rockwool cubes ina pot with lava rock or expanded clay pellets. I actually one time took rocks from my road and washed and bleached them and they worked pretty well with the rockwool cubes.

Cool! So i'd be better off going for a DFS.

I want to set this up asap, what size res do i need for only the one plant?
Also, i dont really want to buy anything for this little grow so what could i use as a medium what would be free for me to obatin?

Thanks for the help.:bigjoint:

I have a water pump, not a air pump.

I wanted to know about hydro meduims.
Yeah, I use a water pump in that system along with an air pump. I have heard of people using everything from aquarium pebbles to decorative marbles for mediums, the best thing IMO would be Rockwool, Hydroton, or neoprene plugs.

Its cool man +rep to you too man, I would appreciate it greatly if you gave me +rep because I am new to the RIU community. I would use a 5-gallon bucket, they work great for 1 plant setups. All you have to do is light proof the bucket, get a small water pump, a small air pump, and some of the smaller size bubble wands. If you dont want to spend money on the netcups then use some party cups and burn alot of pencil size holes in the whole bottom half of the cup. Also you will need to have some PH up, and down, and you will most likely need a small water heater for aquariums.

Hey Bro

The easiest cloner to make is with these items:
1 - 5 gal bucket with lid
1 air pump (dual)
2 air stones + 1/4" air line
foam (sponge or anything works)
2" bit or hole saw + 3/8" bit

1. In the lid drill 6-8 holes with a 2" hole saw or spade bit

2. Just below where the lid sits on the top of the bucket drill 2 holes with a 3/8" drill bit in the side of the bucket for the air lines.

3. get your sponge and cut 6-8 pieces that fit in the 2" hole you cut in the lid.

4. put in air stones, fill with water, turn on air pump. you'll have to adjust the water level so when the air pump is running you feel bubbles hitting your hand
where the clones stem will be. With this you don't need a dome, you don't need to mist them, just let them go! Be sure to only use 1/4 strength nutes for first 1-2 weeks. what i do is after they start getting roots i transplant them in a net pot with hydroton - then they go in veg - in a month they can flower. I'll post a pic of my set up later today to show you how easy it is. i was using the water pumps, with the micro sprayers but now am doing all DWC - just bubbles is all you need!!!!

Sounds very good, looking forward to the pictures.

So the stems do not sit in the water, just above?

So this is a 3 lb taping mud bucket. I cut 5-3/4" holes in the lid and hot glued 5-3/4" pvc peices 1/2" long to the lid. Then drilled 2 holes in the side of the bucket very high on the side just under the lip. glued 1/4 hose spilcers for air hoses. got a air pump and small tank heater, 2 5" air stones. sorry the pic's are not good and I let the clones go to long. Had roots in 5 days. I love the thing.

Also painted the bucket black and cut a notch in the top rim for the heater cord. I want to use plugs but atm I use a wrap of filter batting.

Above the water line 1/2"-1". I've had some short ones to just at the top of the hole. here is a pic of the very fist thing i put into it. it was a chopped limb off a flowering plant. it rooted and finished in the cloner bucket. had bad root rot due to heat and lack of knowing what i was doing but it finished out. found a few more of the bucket

Ok, thanks.
I have had great advise in this tread, thank you all!

How often do you change the water in these bubble cloners and is it bad for the roots to sit in the water once grown?
And also, clones need no humidity domes using this method?

peace!
