What am I doing wrong?

I'm wondering if I'm missing a step here. I have harvasted my plants and have been drying them out in the basement. They are hanging from a string in the open. They are not in an enclosure at all. Just hanging in the open room. My basement is very dry an stays around 65 to 75 degrees. I trim up the buds and hang. After about 5 days they are very very dry. Dry to the point where they feel like they will turn to dust if I squeeze them too hard. I then place them in a air tight jar and put that in my closet. The mosture does come back to the buds over the next day. I then open the jar for about 5 minutes to replace the air and then back to the closet. My buds do not come out being very tight. It's more of a loose bud, lots of shake. This is my 2nd harvast and the amount on this grow is much much more. I want to try and make sure the bud looks like bud. Not dried out clumps of bud hanging from a twigg.

I would like this to look like this,

Not like this

I will say the 2nd pic is not that bad compared to mine. When I get the camera charged I will post mine. Any help please.

PS, the bud smokes just fine. A little harsh but I have smoked alot worse. So it's not the end of the world, just an personal choice I guess.

I got two suggestions. It sounds like you did it right, except you may of had them in LIGHT, and you are supposed to dry and cure them in DARKNESS.

1, I always save a small piece of STEM, from the very bottom of the plant. AFTER I get mine in jars, I burp them daily for 30 days. IF I notice a jar is very dry, I put a one inch long liece of my still moist stem in the jar for one day. Then remove it and contineut he 30 day burping process.

IF they are still not as moist as I like them, (AND I DO FEAR BUD MOLD AND BUD WROT) I take the lid off of the jar, and lay a wet papertowel over th top of the jar. I leave it for two hours and the dry buds draw in some slight moisture. Works for me!

Tight nugs come with genetics. Some plants tend to produce rock hard buds, while other a bit more wispy. It also has to do with amount of light.

Ok got it guys. Thanks so much. I think my problem is the light. The basement is not 100% dark. The windows are blacked out but still it's not 100%. I have only harvasted parts of my plants. So I have no wasted the the full plants. I will move the dry to a totally dark cabinet that I have. Thanks guys..
