Weird, Single Leafed Plant???

My friend has this plant he grew from bagseed in a 5-gallon DWC bucket system. He uses RO water and adds about 2.5 tsp each of Advanced Nutrients 3-part system (bloom, micro, and grow), and 6 tsp of Aquashield.

When the plant first sprouted it looked exactly like a plant should look with two little spiked leaves and the 2 round seed leaves. Then he went on vacation for a week and when he returned he found the plant to be some weird mutant that didn't even look like a pot plant.

This plant is completely bizarre. It has strange, fat single leaves with tiny little leaves at the bases. Has anyone seen this before? He's almost certain he grew it from a fat, striped seed he found in his bag. He's using CFL lamp btw.

Attached are pics, thanks.

this looks like the beginnings of a problem.

i would say maybe either N toxicity or moisture related.

back off on the nutes until it clears up and then gently go back onto nutes.

Until it looks healthy. Make sure it is ph adjusted to 5.5-6.0. Otherwise it will look like my avatar. . . minus the cool, refreshing beverage. Like jondaman said, go easy on the nutes.

ok, old nute solution has been dumped out and it's now filtered, RO water at about 6.0 pH. should it be kept it like this just until the yellow leaf burns go away or should no nutes be added until it grows normal leaves cause wont that take a while?

It shouldn't take long enoough for new leaves to grow. The dead spots will stay that way, the yellow may or may not go away, but the biggest indicator that it is recovering is that the leaves will stop looking "pruny" and will have almost a waxy feel to them- flexible and smooth. You might want to get a tds meter so you can check the ppm of your nute mix. It really helps out when you need to know if you are giving them too much fert.

I had a seed from Highgrade do the same thing. After 1 week in it showed mutant signs. Now it is bouncing back and forth.. Very odd

I'd give it time. I had a mutant that was really really small and kinda deformed, but I stuck through, and the smoke is great.

that happened to me just a few days ago. it never fixed itself and looked like lettuce until i just ignored it and it kinda died

That justs looks like bad genes. I had a seedling come in like that myself just not as crinkly as yours. But it was in pure unadulterated soil and was never given any nutes. You can consider it the "runt" of the litter, and I'd trash it because mine wound up dying anyway. Yours looks more severe and it would be too easy to just plant another one (if you have more seeds that is).

It's the only plant my friend has right now so he kinda wants to wait it out and see if it comes back. He's had it in pure filtered RO water pHed to 5.5 - 6.0 for at least 24 hours now, the plant looks like it does now.

Should he add nutes back again or still keep flushing it? How often should the water be changed?

id give it some time, i had the same problem before on my pure sativa...i just watered it when it needs it, no nutes no nothing...id put it outside if you can since its still small mother nature might fix it. for instance when my Super Lemon Haze was still a seedling like a week old some fag sabotage it and pinch the body it was still clinging at the bottom i was hopeless and crying inside, so desperate that i dumped some soil and left the plant on upright position and went right up ever since now its a 6ft tall mama mia, so just place it under the sun if you can, simple as that let God do the fixin for u

ya the rockwool is pretty much soaked. the seed was germinated in a big block of rockwool when the smaller cubes shouldve probably been used,

theres been some kinda fungus or green mold on the rockwool too and we've kinda been trying to rip off non-essential pieces of it since the plant has now rooted itself well in the hydroton.

if the problem is the rockwool what else can be done?

also btw, it looks like some tiny new leaves are starting to form.

yo i had a clone do this last harvest.....it just started putting out single leaves and all sorts of weird lookin patterns of leaves....i let it go to buddin and it ended up becoming hermaph....it wasnt to bad though cause i only had a couple seeds and the smoke was pretty slammin....i dont know if the crazy leaf pattern is a precursor to bein hermaph or not but thats what happened to mine...

I've had that a couple of times. One time I flowered the mutant - it wasn't worth it. Luckily it didn't go hermie like the above post, but the amount I got from it wasn't worth the trouble. The other time it happened, I let it veg for a good amount of time, and it eventually went back to normal and turned into a decent plant.
