Weed smell, is it legal?

I'm growing my 4 plants in Ontario and I installed a charcoal filter for the exhaust, but there is still some weed smell that escapes in my backyard.

My neighbor has been complaining and threatening to complain to the city, but is this an empty threat?

On the Ontario government website it says nothing about having to contain the smell.

I could install a larger more expensive exhaust system, but it's hundreds of dollars that I don't have.

Thoughts on what to do?

Thanks for your reply. What about in cities though? As long as it's on my property I'm good?

They were complaining that the smell is an "invasion of privacy" on their property.
Sounds about as stupid as them calling to say you idle your truck and they can smell the exhaust. Bet if it smelt like booze, would be acceptable, such bullshit. Put a fart spray can in a auto sprayer and set it inline, smell shit bitch.

If it’s a rec grow, I can’t see a issue. Googling shows a lot of people complaining about smell.

Ya I live in Canada and your legal with your 4 you’ve already done the nice thing and bought a carbon filter, Don’t waste money on a new one until it wears out eventually.

I feel like it’s not the smell it’s the fact you grow that bothers them. People will catch up with the times eventually

-edit-your neighbour is probably bored at home and can’t do anything because of COVID and wants to bitch about something to someone

If your neighbor is bitching about four plants it sounds like he is just bitching cause you are growing
Not the smell
Just ran into him today and he says he wakes up and smells it "inside" his house! In the winter?

What is weird is he just moved in this past summer and I had the smell unfiltered when the open house was going on. I'll ask him if he smelled it then because it was way smellier last year.

Like others have said, I think he is just complaining now because we are still in lockdown and too much time to worry about stuff.

I used to work at a major hospital taking care of the heating/cooling/air. We got smell calls all the time. Once I got a call from a second floor office, she could smell the people smoking outside. Which was rather odd with the windows being sealed units. Then maybe it is coming through the air ducts? Nope, the outside are that we mixed in came from nine stories up.

She could see the people smoking outside and convinced herself of the smell. In terms of legally growing in Canada and the smell issue, there is no laws against it although there was some talk on local levels. But so far no city has gone there, at least up to a few months ago.

Its pretty easy to contain smells, how are you set up?
Its definitely from my filter system ibeing smaller and cheaper. I have 4 plants in 15g pots with a long veg, so they are decently sized. Also I switched to 100% organic nutes, so you can really smell the turpenes.

Like I've worked at commercial grows before and this is far in comparison but once you notice it even faintly, it's still there you know?

Also my house is in a nice area and some people can be stereotypical when it comes to growing in their neighborhood. Most are cool though, I know of at least 4 other houses that grow in the summer and smoked with half the people on the street too.

None of that matters. The path of less resistance is to eliminate the smell.

Show me a picture or describe your grow room
